Gros Islet, ST. LUCIA – The Board of Directors of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) yesterday approved a bowling review committee to look closely at the players who have been reported and/or suspended for illegal bowling actions in international games.

The committee will review, assess and make the relevant recommendations of all the international players before they are allowed to bowl in domestic competitions. The announcement, was made by President, Dave Cameron at the end of the two-day meeting held in St. Lucia (Saturday and Sunday), December 12 & 13

Among the other decisions which were approved by the directors were the adjustment to the cricket year, which will run from May 1 to the end of April. Fitness standards were also revised and approved. President Cameron noted that these “new and improved standards are intended to improve the performance of the teams and will be put in effect immediately.”

As was reported at the end of day one, the WICB has acquired the services of Anthony Waddy Astaphan, noted senior counsel to look at the recommendations from the CARICOM, – final report on the governance of cricket. Astaphan made a presentation to the directors and will prepare a paper recommending a pathway “for both organizations for the benefit and improvement of cricket on and off the field.”

The President also announced the release of the third running of the NAGICO Super 50, the region’s premier one-day tournament now set for venues in Trinidad and Tobago and St. Kitts, scheduled to start on January 7. The tournament will have eight teams and will include the six regional teams, the Combined College Campuses and newcomers, ICC Americas.

The President took time out to recognize defending champion, Guyana Jaguars, leaders of the Professional Cricket League (PCL) now on and wanted to highlight a summary of good performances up to Round 5 which ends tomorrow (Monday, December 14). He noted that to date, eight centuries have been scored and a full summary will be available at the end of this round.

Additionally, the President revealed that the Board will shortly announce an important sponsorship deal, thanks to the work of top sport marketing firm, Pitch International LLC.

“The audited results for the year ended September 30, 2015 will be prepared by the 31st December 2015, and will be laid before the shareholders at the annual general meeting to be held in Antigua in March 2016,” said the President.
