NYPD Under-19 Cricket

The one time champions MMZ Superstars led by USA under -19 player Trevis Ross won their second game of the season having lost their first game to the Daredevils in last week opener.

The Superstars took on Lycans at Flushing on Wednesday, Lycans won the toss and elected to bat first with the openers Syed and Dargee walked out to the wicket.

For the Superstars their main strike bowler Anwer Hussain was absent due to work commitment and the new ball was given to Safraz Deokinanan and Amarnauth Persaud.

Amarnauth Persaud hit 82 not out in MMZ Superstars win over Lycans.

Safraz was bowling with good pace and control had Syed caught for 11 at long off, Persaud and Safraz kept things quiet. The Lycans boys started to accelerate the scoring when the spinners came on. Dargee was next to go caught off the bowling of Chetram Persaud for 15, Foysal was caught off Trevis Ross for 1. Sujon was batting well until he was out LBW by Ross for a well played 25. Zakir steadied the innings with Raja. The little master Rafeek Nazeer came on and immediately had Zakir caught for a well played 29. Lycans eventually scored 126 for 8 wkts off their 20 overs.

Superstars batting depending heavily on The skipper Trevis Ross, Rafeek Nazeer, Amarnath Persaud and Clifford Hamilton to bring them home, the Coach Ajaz Asgarally gathered his team together and in his usual way telling his players the importance to believe in themselves and they can do it, Mr. Asgarally also stress the importance for one of the top four batsmen must bat to the end in order to win the game.

It was the attractive USA under 19 player Trevis Ross and the talented Rafeek Nazeer to open the batting for the MMZ Superstars. Both Batsmen just came off half centuries the day before. The Lycans opened their attack with Foisal he is one of the fastest bowlers on show in the tournament. He bowled well but without any luck, Ross and Nazeer were batting well when Nazeer was smartly stumped down the leg side for 15. In walked the Talented and probably one of the best under 19 batsman in the country Amarnath Persaud who was left out of the USA squad for unknown reason joined his skipper Trevis Ross. Persaud and Ross were picking up the singles and doubles and were batting with great maturity. Ross was undone by a very good deliver from Raja for 11. Persaud was joined by New York player Clifford Hamilton.

This was the pair that the superstars had all hopes to bring them home however Hamilton played a loose shot and was caught for 6..Persaud realize he was running out of partner was joined by Robin with the score board 50 for 4 in 10 overs it looks like a daunting task for this young new look Superstars team, however with Persaud at the wicket anything was possible. Robin was run out for a duck, Persaud was hitting the ball picking up the occasionally boundaries he was keeping the score board ticking in the meantime his partner Surendra after batted well was run out, new Boy Safraz joined Persaud the pair batted well with Persaud taking most of the strike, he brings up his 50 with a glorious pull for 6..Safraz was undone by the run out route so as Chetram Persaud. The dependable little master Michael Ketwaroo joined his mate, with superstars needed 30 in 3 overs Persaud smashed Foisal for 14 off one over the he took eight off the 19th over. Needed 8 in the final over Persaud got a double off the first ball then he smashed two glorious fours to give the Superstars their 2nd win in two days.

Summary: Lycans 126 for 8 off 20  and MMZ Superstars 129 for 7 wkts off 20 overs.

On Tuesday the superstars beat Ice Breakers by 9 runs.

The competition will break for the holy month of Ramadan and will resume on August 14th.
