Atlantis Cricket Club’s Jamal Hinckson scored a steady 106 last Sunday against NY Centurions at Heckscher State Park, as the 2015 Eastern American Cricket cricket season kicked off under sunny skies with a late afternoon fog creeping in with the closing overs.

Atlantis won the toss and immediately elected to take first strike, getting off to a very shaky start; losing their opening pair of Shawn Mason and Keon Lake, along with skipper Alex Amsterdam for a paltry 26 runs total. However Jamal Hinckson, a former Demerara Cricket Club captain and Guyana national player, joined Ryan Sukhdeo and the duo put on a 68-run fourth-wicket partnership, before Sukhdeo departed while on 24.

The right-handed Hinckson, making his debut appearance for Atlantis, then teamed up with the hard-hitting Wahid Ward to add a 129-run partnership, before Ward exited after contributing a blistering 52 (4x6s, 4x4s) with the Atlantis total at 197 in over 19 – a remarkable recovery from 68 for 4 in over number 8, and a testimony to the 2015 batting depth of Atlantis. All-rounder Nazim Uddin batting at number nine contributed a patient and unbeaten 34, while witnessing Hinckson chalk up his first ton for Atlantis at the other end.

Atlantis would eventually be all out for 289 in 35.2 overs. The Atlantis wickets fell at 8, 9, 9, 68, 197, 208, 217, 247, 254, and 284. Carlton Baker captured 4 for 61, Deoraj Sewanan, 3 for 42, and Carlos Bachu 2 for 63.

NY Centurions in response to the 7.23 per ask, was off to a healthier start than Atlantis, losing their first wicket at 27, then building two partnerships of 30 and 15 for the second and third wickets with the score at 82 for 3, before losing their remaining seven wickets while adding only 35 runs for a final tally of 117 in 26.5 overs.

Top scorer was opener Troy Haley with 44 (1×6, 7x4s) off of 36 balls. Chris Raghunath was the only other Centurion to reach double-figures, scoring 14 off of 23 deliveries. The NY Centurion wickets fell at 27, 67, 82, 89, 94, 98, 103, 103, and 110. 117.
