Sunday, May 3, 2015 – Indianapolis, IN: Canada and USA opened their campaign in the ICC Americas Men’s Division 1 T20 Championship on winning notes yesterday, registering wins over Suriname and Bermuda in the ICC Americas Men’s T20 Tournament in Indianapolis, IN.

Canada vs. Suriname
Canada was sent in to bat against Suriname at the Indianapolis World Sports Park, the newest cricket facility in USA, Ruvindu Gunasekera and Rizwan Cheema opening the Canadian innings and putting on 26 for the first-wicket.

Ruvindu Gunasekera was the first to go, as he fell for 11. Srimantha Wijeyeratne joined his captain and they added another 26 runs before he fell to Muneshwar Patadin for 12.

Skipper Rizwan Cheema would eventually fall for 34 off the bowling of Troy Dudnath, as Canada reached a modest total of 120 off their allotted 20 overs.

The other batsmen to get into double figures were Jimmy Hansra, 15, Hamza Tariq, 16, and Satsimranjit Dhindsa, 14.

Suriname would use five bowlers during the inning. Sauid Drepaul and Troy Dudnath had two wickets apiece while Carlton Baker and Muneshwar Patadin each had one wicket.

Suriname’s batting display was not on par as they ended on a meager 59 for 9 when the allotted 20 overs finished. Wasim Haslim was only batsman to reach double figure with 19.

Nikhil Dutta was the most successful Canadian bowler as he picked up 4 for 8. Junaid Siddiqui had two wickets while a wicket apiece went to Khurram Chohan, Jimmy Hansra and Rizwan Cheema.

USA opener Fahad Babar struck an unbeaten 78 that earned him the man-of-the-match award.

USA vs. Bermuda
Team USA joined Canada as winners on the opening day of the ICC Americas Men’s Division 1 T20 Championship when they beat Bermuda by 5 wickets.

Bermuda won the toss and elected to bat first, posting 123 for the loss of 5 wickets.

Christian Burgess top scored with a brilliant 43 off 31 deliveries, while opener David Hemp contributed 20, with Janeiro Tucker and Randall Robinson posting 10 and 11 respectively.

USA in reply reached their target in 19 overs for the lost of 5 wickets.

USA was in early trouble when they lost opener Akeem Dodson for a duck when the score was on six. Vice captain Steven Taylor joined Fahad Babar and they added 32 before Taylor was caught for 9.

Babar would keep the USA inning steady as he struck an unbeaten 78 from 54 balls including eight fours and two sixes. Nicholas Standford and Timil Patel were the other USA batsmen to get into double figures, with 10 and 12 respectively.

Janeiro Tucker picked up two wickets while Dion Stovell, Joselyn Pitcher and Delray Rawlins each enjoyed a scalp apiece.

Today’s action sees Canada against Bermuda and USA against Suriname.
