Canada and USA have continued their dominance at the 2020 International Cricket Council Under-19, 50-over World Cup Qualifiers with resounding victories on the second day at Maple Leaf ground, King City Toronto.

Left-arm spinner Raqib Shamsundeen orchestrated Canada’s impressive seven-wicket win against Argentina while USA’s all-round effort led them to a comprehensive nine-wicket triumph over Bermuda on Tuesday.

On the opening day at the same facility, both Canada and USA snapped up convincing victories to start off the five-team round-robin tournament that also includes Cayman Islands.

The top side will advance to the World Cup event early next year slated to be hosted by South Africa.

Shamsundeen, who also bowled brilliantly in the initial game once again made batting looked tough for the Argentina youths on a placid track. No batsman was able to make a big impact as wickets fell in a heap. Perhaps to their own astonishment, eight players departed without scoring a run.

Shamsundeen finished with a man-of-the-match performance (5-3) off five overs. Apart from Shamsudeen, Akhil Kumar and Ayush Verma supported with two scalps. When Canada chased down the target, they only took four overs to surpass the target but surprisingly lost three wickets in the process.

In the other encounter that played simultaneously, USA made light work of Bermuda, who also suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of the hosts. They failed once more in every department as they were bundled out for an inadequate 71 off 30-overs.

USA raced to 72-1 in the progress of ten overs. Opener Shayne Paynter scored a dogged 21 for Bermuda as leg-spinner Shashank Vittaladevaram snatched 3-13 from his eight-over stint. In USA’s innings, Saiteja Mukkamalla hit an unbeaten 32 while Majjid Subair batted with a great amount of aggression too to be left not out on 26.

The tournament will be resuming on Thursday after a break on Wednesday. USA will clash with Argentina while Bermuda and Cayman Islands are set to do battle. The actions are expected to wrap-up on Sunday with the final round.
