Cricket For Cubs Promoting Youth Cricket In California Schools

Cricket for Cubs (www.cricketforcubs.org), a non-profit organization promoting cricket in local schools and communities conducted the first ever inter-school cricket tournament at Emerald Glen Cricket Field in Dublin, California. Over the past two weekends, with teams from Fallon Middle School, Dublin; Harvest Park Middle School, Pleasanton, and Iron Horse Middle School, San Ramon. The tournament drew five teams from those middle schools and the teams played 10 games; providing an ideal setting for developing sportsmanship and camaraderie among the Tri-Valley youth.

Harvest Park Cricket Club was the winner of the inaugural inter-school cricket tournament, with the Iron Horse cricket team emerging as runner-up. Pleasanton Mayor Jerry Thorne handed over the championship trophy to the winning team.

Iron Horse Middle School’s Shamith Pasula was adjudged the tournament’s Best Batsman, Ajay Immadi of Harvest Park Middle School was adjudged Best Bowler, while Harish Dukkipati and Saket Ayinaparthi of Fallon Middle School were adjudged Best Wicket-keeper and Best Fielder, respectively. Iron Horse Middle School’s Bhuvan Sharma Kumbakonam, was adjudged Player of the Tournament.

Cricket for Cubs plans to conduct another tournament in Spring 2016, inviting more school teams to participate. Dr. Abhijeet of Dublin Ranch Dental, sponsored this year’s event. Vedas Restaurant, Pleasanton; Aromas of India, Dublin, and Whole Foods, Dublin, were the tournament’s food sponsors.
