Former Guyana youth player Shivanandan Madholall would have celebrated his 31st birth anniversary on January 17th, but his sudden death last September 6th is still unbelievable.

The left-handed batsman represented his native country at the under-15 and 19 levels ranging from 1999-2002 while he featured for Essequibo at the Annual Guyana Cricket Board senior inter-county tournament on several occasions.

Madholall last played for the Cinderella County in 2008 before taking a break owing to family commitment but made an enthusiastic promise of coming back just before his demise. He suffered with Malaria briefly before succumbing at his home in Reliance, Essequibo Coast, Region Two.

During his absence from hardball and competitive cricket, Madholall represented both Reliance Sports Club and Cotton Field Wild Oats with distinction while he featured in the inaugural Guyana Floodlights Softball Association mini world cup tournament two years ago.

Shivanandan was a younger brother of former national under-19 batsman Rovendra while his two other siblings Ravendra and Narindra also attired in the Essequibian colors at the under-19 level.

Notably, Shivanandan and his three other brothers played at the inter-county level joining Hemnarine, Sewnarine, Ramnarine and Harrinarine Chattergoon to be the next set of four brothers to have played at the inter-county tournament in the history of Guyana’s cricket.

Meanwhile, after Shivanandan left two children four-year-old and 9-month-old to mourn, a Cricket Magazine will be launched soon to help raise funds for them. A memorial T20 match is also set for June in Guyana at the Reliance Sports Club ground with several past and present Essequibo and Guyana players will be on show.

The Magazine will give details of Shivanandan’s cricketing career both for Essequibo and Guyana while other articles on Guyana and West Indies’ cricket will appear. Since two of his brothers are currently residing in Canada and actively playing the game, a number of feature articles will be highlighted too of Canada cricket, Ontario Softball Cricket League, Canada Softball League, Toronto and District Cricket Association, Scarborough Cricket Association, a few on New York cricket (hard and softball), among others.

All proceeds will go to his children, Annisa and Marko Madholall, who are based in Guyana at the moment.
