The 2020 Annual General Meeting and Election of Officers saw a change in the leadership at the top of the Metro League, as Dervon “Dunga” Wallace assumed the presidency of the New York Metropolitan & District Cricket Association (Metro League).

The well-represented AGM of the Metropolitan league saw a changing of the guard as Dunga assumed the leadership uncontested. He previously served as Vice President under Cliff Roye, who has been at the league’s helm for the past six years but did not seek re-election. Four members of the Cliff Roye administration retained seats on the Board, unopposed, albeit with some changes in their board positions, and two new board members were added, in Jerry Bowen and Akeem Dodson.

Venelda Wallace, the long-standing Corresponding Secretary, retained her position, while outgoing Treasurer Orval Crawford was elected Vice President. Mikhail Miller returned as Recording Secretary, with Barrington Bartley moving from Public Relations Officer to Treasurer. The new Public Relations Officer Jerry Bowen and Marketing Officer Akeem Dodson round out the 2020 elected slate.

Fourteen of the anticipated 16 clubs were represented at the meeting and unanimously approved acceptance of the Richmond Hill Liberty Cricket Club to the league. The latter club most recently played in the Eastern American Cricket Association.

Incoming President Dervon Wallace sought the cooperation and support of the league by all of the participating clubs in moving the association forward. Former USA national cricketer Akeem Dodson, the association’s new Marketing Officer pledged to take the Metro league to the highest that it deserves to be, adding, “We won’t be able to establish ourselves as the league that we know ourselves to be unless we are a cohesive unit.”

Soon after the meeting, newly-elected President Wallace departed for Jamaica, West Indies to help bury his mother Cynthia who passed away recently.
