Sudesh Dhaniram picked up 3 for 16 and Trevor Henry struck an unbeaten 41 to secure a comfortable 6 wicket victory for Liberty Sports Club over Galaxy Cricket Club. Randal Wilson was the only bright spot for Galaxy CC when they batted first and were scuttled out for 102. The GMA Enterprise Real Estate and Tax Service & Royal Empress Catering Hall sponsored LSC then returned to knock off the total in the 24th over to move to 4-0 in the EACA Cricket Zone A Division.

Skipper Yudesh Bissnauth won the toss and asked Liberty SC to field first when the teams met last Sunday at Bay Park. Galaxy did not get the start they would have wanted when Metrey Balgobin was run out for 2 in the 5th over with the score on 8. Little progress was made when Dhaniram had Tamesh Balwant (4) caught behind by Francis Mendonca and Rafeek Nazeer leg before wicket in successive deliveries in the 8th over with the score on 14.

Sudesh Dhaniram set the tone with the ball picking up 3 for 16 runs when Liberty restricted Galaxy to 102.

The early blows coupled with some sharp fielding kept Galaxy CC quiet and eventually crippled their entire innings. Dhaniram’s new ball partner, Trevor Henry, bowled with pace and accuracy but Wilson, who opened the inning, was equal to the task keeping Henry out.

Trinson Carmichael took over from Henry and immediately found success thanks to some brilliance from Rusty Kirton in slip to remove the Galaxy captain. Carmichael struck once more to have Rajendra Latcha sharply caught behind by Mendonca. The double strike by Carmichael capped a spell of 6 overs for 5 runs.

With Galaxy CC at 50 for 5 in the 23rd over, Leon Mohabir got into the mix of things. The wildly spinner struck twice to leave GCC 87 for 7 in the 33rd over. Kirton, who has had a knack for picking up key wickets all season, struck the decisive blow when he had Wilson brilliantly caught by Henry on the midwicket boundary. Wilson’s inning spanned 34 overs and he managed 3 fours and a six before he fell for 41.

Dhaniram returned to the attack and quickly wrapped up the inning at 102. The veteran finished with 3 wickets for 16 runs off 7.5 overs. Carmichael picked up 2 wickets for 16 runs off 8 overs, Mohabir 2 wickets for 20 runs off 8 overs, Kirton 2 wickets for 17 runs off 4 overs while Henry bowled 8 overs for 20 runs and Javed Shakoor 1 over for four runs.

The LSC chase got off to a shaky start when openers Romero Deane (3) and Francis Mendonca (4) were removed by Kieran Krishna. Dhaniram joined Henry at the crease and put on 35 before Dhaniram was caught by Nazeer off of Latcha for 17.  Henry appearing solid as he did the week before when he blasted an unbeaten 144, stroked the ball with ease around the Bay Park outfield. Carmichael added a quick fire 23 before he was bowled off of a low long hop.

With the score on 81 for 4, Kirton joined Henry and the duo safely navigated #TheBlueNation to victory in the 24th over. Henry struck 3 fours and a massive 6 to post an inning high 41. Bowling for GCC Krishna picked up 2 for 13 while Latcha & Dhaniram Seepersaud picked up 1 wicket each.

The boys in blue are now 4-0 in the season with the much anticipated match against two time defending champions Big Apple Cricket Club slated for this Sunday at Bay Park.
