Dilly Khilawan walked away with the Most Valuable Player award at Liberty Sports Club’s 2011 awards. The hard hitting opener copped the award after scoring 359 runs at an average of 40 in LSC’s 2011 season playing in the Eastern American Cricket Association.

The event which was held in the South Ozone Park area of Queens took place on Saturday, April 7th and saw a large number of supporters coming out to celebrate with the club.

Dilly scored two 50’s with a highest score of 80 as part of his 2011 season exploits. He was also recognized for scoring the most runs in a single season for the club, having the highest single season batting average and being the first player in the club to surpass 500 total runs scored.

Speaking at the event Dilly reminded his teammates, “Individual performances are great but winning the championship and being consistent must be the ultimate goal.” He thanked his teammates and supporters mainly his wife and family.

Ramratan ‘Jags’ Jagnarine, Thakur ‘Gream Swan’ Singh & Dharamraj ‘Vidoor’ Singh were honored as being the best bowlers for their season total of 10 wickets each. They picked up their lot of wickets at an average of 25, 24 & 28 respectively while Jags & Thakur tied with the best bowling economy rate 4.6 while Vidoor went at 5.6 runs per over.

The event also served as the formal introduction of the club’s 2012 exclusive sponsorship by Achievers Real Estate NY Inc. Founder and owner of Achievers, Haseeb Ally, expressed pleasure of coming on board as the exclusive sponsor of the club noting, “I was encouraged to have the opportunity to getting involved with a young organization. I did my homework and did not have any hesitation in sponsoring LSC. We are looking to build a long term relationship for many years in the future and I wish the club all the best in 2012.”

LSC’s president, Vickey Khilawan, thanked his players for a successful season and applauded the club’s off field voluntary efforts in the local community. He thanked all of the club’s loyal supporters for their continued dedication to the efforts of the club. The president acknowledged Achievers Real Estate NY Inc. coming on board as a sponsor and sited the partnership as one which will encourage club members to on and off the field.

Team captain for the 2011 season, Danesh Deonarain, spoke highly of the team’s effort on the field and challenged the players to continue to push for higher achievements as the club matures. Danesh handed over the reins of the team to 2012 captain Imtiaz ‘Tizzle’ Hassan. Speaking in acceptance of the captaincy Imtiaz thank the team’s management for entrusting him with the post and promised that he will do everything within his powers to motivate his players towards earning the club a championship.
