Galaxy Cricket Club (GCC) got the better of Richmond Hill Cricket Club (RHCC) in a low-scoring game at Baisley Park last Sunday, but not without the anticipation of which both teams were in an impregnable position during the early stages of the contest. And could have gone either way—Despite Richmond Hill Cricket Club were only able to muster eight players. The game was reduced to a T20 affair due to overnight and some early morning showers.
Losing a crucial toss and inserted to have the first knock—RHCC lost the explosive Imran Ali in the first over without tickling the scorecard. Debo Sankar coming in at three, watched eight dot balls before his first run as he and Nedesh Basdeo boost a second-wicket partnership 65 from 56.
Galaxy’s Eion Katchay, Keeran Krishna and Telston Michael Johnson, all held a nagging line that kept the RHCC batsmen shot selection to a minimal. Basdeo and Sankar, fell for 21 each, while Deryck McDonald cracked a brisk 15 from 10 and with Mr. Extras being the only other to register double figures with 20—as the lower order weren’t able to cope with the off-spin of Dhaniram Seepersaud, who triggered the collapsed with figures of 3-0-3-3, to be all out for 94 with three over remaining.
Chasing a modest 94 from 20, GCC lost Tamesh Balwant and Troy Mars, both for five. However, youngsters Naresh Persaud (28) and Rafeek Nazeer (27) streamlined a valiant third-wicket partnership of 55 that laid the foundation and set them on course. but Shawn Thompson then dismissed both batsmen along with Inzy Khan (6) to put RHCC back into the game.
Johnson promoted up the order to up the ante, grabbed his fourth consecutive duck—his family could not have been happier as they await their new favorite Sunday special, duck curry with dhal puri. Despite the further loss—Skipper Yudesh Bissnauth with Keeran Krishna then took their team to victory with three overs to spare. Both batsmen were unbeaten with 11 and four respectively. Also among the wickets for RHCC were the Sadloo brothers with one each.
