East Bank Succumb To Meten Meer Zorg
Meten-Meer-Zorg defeated East  Bank CC in a quarter finals showdown at the Baisley Park (Cage). East Bank took first strike after winning the toss and lost two quick wickets,with some good pace and swing bowling by two promising under 19 player in Rocky Kowchai and Robin Das. Mark Gomes was run out without scoring and then Royo Sankar was bowled first ball by Das. Debo Sankar batted well for 86 before he was caught at the boundary by Andy Mohammed who took a good catch off the bowling of NY Region Under 19 left arm spinner Saumil Gandhi.

East Bank continue to lose wicket with tight bowling from USA player Andy Mohammed and Deonauth Baksh however with some aggression in the latter overs by Sohan Dass and C. Senior help East Bank with a respectable total finishing at 222 for 7 off 40 overs.

In reply MMZ open the batting with Andy Mohammed and Ken Nandkumar. These two got off to a flying start with Mohammed hitting frequent boundaries all part of the park before he was well caught by Telston Johnson on the boundary for a well played 38. Nandkumar was joined by Deonauth Baksh and the two brought up the 100 for MMZ in the 14th overs. Baksh played some good cricket shots and was eventually well caught by Sohan Dass off C. Senior trying to pull through mid wicket. Zaaid Majeed joined Nandkumar who brings up his 50 with a blistering cover drive for four, he was eventually out for a well played 61 valuable runs. With the score on 136 for 3 in 21 overs, walks to the wicket the promising reliable well organized 19 year old Robin Das to join Majeed. Das lit up the huge crowd that was on hand with some fantastic stroke play that see Meten-Meer-Zorg through to the semi finals against Everest/ACS on Sunday at Lido beach. Das made 64 not out and was named MMZ player of the match.

Ajaz Asgarally who is mostly responsible for blending these youths together is hoping that MMZ can go on to win the Championship this year.

Richmond Hill Prevails over Rising Star Despite Latchman 77

Richmond Hill Cricket Club ended Rising Star Cricket Club dreams of reaching the 2010 EACA 40-over semi’s on Sunday, August 1st at Jacob Riis’s Park.  This is the second year Richmond Hill CC has blemish the party for the youthful cricket club.  Despite the absent of talented opening batsman Keddy Lesporis, and former USA Under-19 All-Rounder Regis Burton, RSCC fought to the end.

Karan Ganesh continues with his profilic season with an unbeaten 138 against East Side Warrior.

Credit must be given to USA national player, Adrian Gordon, and veteran Imran Ali for setting up the win for their club.  Gordon scored 45; while Ali 30 unbeaten runs ensure victory for Richmond Hill CC.  R. Bactowar, Z. Sadloo, and S. Dass were the main wicket takers for Richmond Hill Cricket Club.  Bactowar would finish with figures of 2 for 20, Sadloo 3 for 30, and Dass 2 for 43.

At one stage RSCC was sitting on top at 100 for 1 after the 18th. over with some excellent batting by former NYCR Under-19 opening batsman Leikram “Busgy” Latchman (77), and veteran all-rounder Rashid Afzal (38).  After the departure of Afzal, the remaining Rising Star batsmen struggled to keep the runs flowing.  Latchman was run-out in the 34th over after attempting to steal a quick single.  Rising Star was restricted to a fighting total of 184 runs despite young Latchman brilliant batting performance.

The Rising Star bowlers lacked the support in the field, and Richmond Hill went on to take full advantage of the few blunders.  Richmond Hill would go on to secure victory in the 39th. over with no wickets remaining, despite two vital catches offered by aggressive left-hand batsman Imran Ali.

Rising Star CC would like to wish Richmond Hill CC all the best in the playoffs, but the second year old club will always play hard on the cricket field, and neglect all the negative vibes exposed by a few individuals.

Jamrock won the toss and decided to bat and they were bowled out for 39 runs in 10.3 overs
P. James made 10 and C Hinds 11 .Bowling for Hillside M. Tamaldeo had figure of 5.3 -1-12-5, he was supported by S, Kanhai who had figure of 5-0-16-5. In reply Hillside knock off their total in 5.4 overs without loss with A Khan 24 and M Heeralall 15.Hilldside advance into the next playoff  round .

Alvi Ali of Long Island United struck 80 against Golden Arrow.

The talented and emerging Golden Arrow cricket club put on a good fight but succumbed to a 112 run defeat against a well drilled Long Island United outfit. Long Island United chose to bat and the dashing duo of Omer Ali (53) and Ali Alvi (80) gave them a rock solid 102 run opening stand. Sajid Khan (19), Omer Iqbal (26), Haris Ali (12 not out), and Anwer Khan (24 not out) chipped in with important cameos. United bowlers brought it home with sizzling Haris taking 3 in a row, Asim Khan with 3, Anwer Khan, Sajid Khan, and Omer Iqbal with 1 each, to get Golden Arrow all out for 133.
