Without a threat of gloom and doom of rain that unfortunately wreaks havoc on lot of Sundays, we had a great day on tap for a great game of cricket.  Seven Star looking to extend its winning streak of starting the season to 4 games, against a newcomer to the Premier division of Commonwealth Cricket League, Rosedale Royals at the beautiful Van Cortland park.

Seven Star won the toss and elected to bat first.  Despite missing, two integral pieces from the starting lineup, Seven Star took the field to bat with the league leader in runs, Moshin Khan – looking to post a good total on an uneven track.  Moshin with supreme batting form, built on top of a streak of three unbelievable not out performances (90,103,119), could not continue his magical run.  He was caught behind on a superb delivery for 20.

Although, other clubs might have felt the pressure and gotten tense a bit, Seven Star CC had an ace up its sleeve in the name of Gregory Sewdial, the powerful hitting former U-19 USA captain batting at number 3. Greg was class personified on Sunday. He hampered by serious ankle injuries for the last few months, is finally getting into shape physically and mentally.  With the pressure of losing of someone like Moshin Khan caliber so early and not with many runs on board, Greg played an extraordinary innings, littered with sweet timing, patience and some monster hits, to take his club to a healthy total of 92 at the end of 20 overs.  Unfortunately, with leg cramps hampering his progress, Greg got out on 55 with an ordinary delivery.

But, the batting brilliance didn’t stop there as the captain Vijay Seonarine, took responsibility to see his team through to the finish line. Vijay finished his day with 40 not out, while the team reached a total of 175 in 35 overs.

Moshin Khan picked up four wickets.

Things didn’t start well for the Rosedale Royals, as the opening bowling tandem of Tim Persaud (2 wickets) and Moshin Khan (4 wickets) locked down both ends, by taking early wickets and not leaking runs.  Unfortunately for the Rosedale Royals, the day did not end well, as they were bowled out for 72 in 26 overs.

Finally, at this moment, Seven Star would like to take a timeout and recognize some of the main cogs behind the scenes that keep the Seven Star CC juggernaut rolling – Mr. Prem Singh, president of Seven Star Fuel Corp. our main sponsor.  Also, General Manager Ganesh Ketwaroo and team manager/player – Kemraj (aka Boyce) Jewth, for tirelessly working with team travel arrangements, scheduling, promoting team camaraderie, and providing a top-notch environment for players to win.
