Gregory Sewdial 138 Puts Everest/ACS In Winning Column Again With Win Over Liberty Sports Club

After suffering their first loss of the season the week before, Everest/ACS wasted no time in getting back into the form they are known for as they squared off against Liberty Sports Club at Flushing Meadows Park.

Liberty won the toss and made the wrong call as they gave Everest/ACS the opportunity to bat first. After their poor batting display last week, the batting order for ACS was modified heavily. For them it was former USA national player Amjad Khan and Aun Merchant who opened the batting. The two looked good at the crease with Khan stroking three fours in his innings while Merchant struck three fours and one six. The two were eventually dismissed for 17 and 25 respectfully.

While Everest/ACS prides themselves on the experience of their players who have been playing the sport for decades, this time it was their talent, in the form of Gregory Sewdial, that stole the show last Sunday. Sewdial who made his return to competitive cricket last year was given a rough welcome back as he captained the USA U-19 team during Word Cup Qualifiers and they failed to make the final cut, but his return to the New York Cricket scene has been nothing short of a success. Having already notched up a ton earlier in the season against Enmore Cricket Club he looked determined to do so yet again last Sunday. So said so done, Sewdial crafted a magnificent 138 which included 17 fours and 6 sixes as he brought the Everest/ ACS total to an outstanding 279. Other contributions came from Karan Ganesh who scored 40 which included 7 fours. Thakur Singh was the most successful of the Liberty Sports Club bowlers as he bagged 3 wickets for 50 runs in his 8 overs.

In reply to the massive total set by Everest /ACS, Danesh Deonarine and Dilly Khilawan opened the batting for Liberty. The two started out positively, but fell victim to the pace of stalwart Trevor Walke. The two would depart for 34 and 19 respectively. Micheal Noble came in and stroked 26 but was eventually run out. It was poor running and econimcal bowling Everest/ACS that lead to Liberty being routed for 183 all out in 31.5 overs. Other significant contribution came from Imtiaz Hassan who scored 43, but it was the Everest/ACS and Greg Sewdial who stole the show last Sunday.  Sewdial performance with the bat and ACS performance in the field completing 3 run out makes them a serious competitor as the rest of the season unfolds.
