Former Guyana National under 19 opening batsman Deonauth Baksh is schedule to make his debut this Sunday here in the USA for Meten-Meer-Zorg cricket club in the highly competitive Eastern American Cricket Association Cricket League.
Prolific batsman Deonauth Baksh will join Meten Meer Zorg club for 2010 season. He averages 121 for his club Couva Sports Club in Trinidad and Tobago.
Baksh a talented opening batsman and a right arm leg spin bowler plays first class cricket for Demerara Cricket Club and represent Essequibo in the inter county tournament. Baksh is contracted in Trinidad and Tobago and has been playing cricket for Couva Sports Club in the T and T Super League Cricket Competition for the last seven years.
The right handed batsman tallied an impressive 612 runs from just six three day matches including a fine 238 not out against Milton Sports Club and 138 not out in the limited over version of the game. His average for season is an impressive 121.03. Baksh was also named Cricketer of the year for Trinidad and Tobago in 2006.
Deonauth Baksh is a guest of the Meten-Meer-Zorg cricket club here in the New York area. Meten-Meer-Zorg is a village in Guyana where Baksh was born and plays cricket locally. The team is captain by former Guyana youth player Ajaz Asgarally who is also from the same village, Asgarally and the entire team is very excited to have him and is confident that he will excel during his stint here in New York.
Baksh will get a chance to open the batting with current USA player Azurdeen Mohammed and by all means these two youngsters will no doubt enhance their team chance in winning the competition.
MMZ cricket team is made up of mostly youths, they have won six games out of seven, with three games more to be played in the preliminary rounds these youngsters are hoping to finish strong.
