EACA 40-Overs Tournament
It was an excellent day for cricket at Marine Park in Brooklyn with a nice breeze blowing across the picturesque ground when Meten –Meer-Zorg Cricket Club (MMZCC) took on Enmore Cricket Club last Sunday July 13th.

Shines Beepat picked up 5 for 22 in Meten Meer Zorg win against Enmore.

MMZ skipper Andy Mohammed won the toss and without hesitation decided to bat. Andy Mohammed and Glen Meyer walked out to the middle for the MMZ, it was Mahadeo Montana and Sohan Persaud took up the attack for Enmore. Meyer started off briskly hitting some lovely shots, but perished to Persaud playing across to be well caught for 13. Sumon Bari came in to join his skipper.

The inform Mohammed played some handsome shots around the quick Marine Park outfield and raced to his second consecutive half century. Bari was batting well before he was out caught off Persaud. In walked the reliable Saud Hossain with his calm and relaxed manner he began his innings in style with a crisp on drive for four, his skipper at the other end looking set again for another century, Mohammed played some exquisite shots before he played across the line to be out to the veteran Lawrence Shoy for 73 valuable runs.

Shines Beepat came in and didn’t last long, as he was caught for 8, new batsman Zaaid Majeed was unfortunately run out for 7. Andre Persaud joined Hossain who was picking up his singles and doubles to see MMZ bring up the 200 mark. Hussain flick one to bring up his half century. Andre Persaud played some beautiful shots before he was out lbw, the rest of the batsmen didn’t last long as MMZ were all pout for 209 in their allotted  40th over with Saud Hussain left unbeaten on 57.

Enmore opening batsmen Mark Gomes and well known Jason Thomas strode out to the middle and didn’t wasted no time taken off 9 off Shines Beepat first over, then Gomes took 18 of the second over bowled by the experienced Zaaid Majeed. The skipper decides to make a switch to bring himself on replacing Beepat. Mohammed immediately trapped Thomas in front of middle stumps, Beepat replaces Majeed, this move by the skipper strike gold with Beepat picking up 5 for 22. His victim includes Murph Seeram  brilliantly caught by Zaaid Majeed for 5, Lawrence Shoy cleaned up for a first ball duck, Rohil Asgar well caught by Glen Meyer for 15, Sahadeo Persaud bowled for 3 and Mahadeo Montana caught behind by Ejaz Asgarally for a duck. The skipper Andy Mohammed bowled a magnificent spell picking 4 for 19, his scalp includes the hard hitting Gomes who was looking good, he was bowled for 30. Leroy Jackman was well caught by Andre Persaud and Matthew Roopnarine cleaned up by Mohammed to end the Enmore innings for a paltry 69.
MMZ won by 140 runs.

MMZ 209 all out off 40 overs Andy Mohammed 73 Saud Hossain 57.
Enmore 69 all out Mark Gomes 30, Shines Beepat 5 for 22 and Andy Mohammed 4 for 19.

The MMZ boys will now take on the 7-0 Big Apple Cricket Club at the famous  Baisley Cage this Sunday  July 20th @ 1pm, this game will be fierce full contests  with both teams possess some talented players.  Big Apple Cricket Club will depend heavily on their skipper Zaheer Saffie and Clain Williams in the batting line up and the former West Indies pacer Adam Sanford and the Suriname national player  the powerful Troy Doodnauth.

Meten-Meer-Zorg on the other hand will be hoping  for their skipper USA player the aggressive Andy Mohammed  to give them a big score, also Singapore player Glen Meyer, Former USA under 19 player Sumon Bari and the reliable Saud Hossain to step up in the batting line up. In the bowling department it will be Shines Beepat and Zaaid Majeed to take care of the leathers.
