Volunteers helps with making of the pitch at Glenn Dale Elementary School in Bowie, Maryland

A unique public-private partnership has resulted in the building of a clay cricket pitch at Glenn Dale Elementary School in Bowie, Maryland.

Sham Chotoo of the Bowie Boys and Girls Club cricket program approached the school about funding the required clay acquisition, so that the school, which plays in the Bowie Elementary School Teams (BEST) cricket league, might have its own pitch. The school agreed, the clay was purchased and delivered, and then a small team of volunteers went to work. The total cost of the entire project was just $500.

After the pitch is rolled next spring, the Glenn Dale pitch will be ready for play, just in time for season three of the BEST cricket league to get underway. Well done to Glenn Dale ES, Sham Chotoo and all of the volunteers from Bowie Boys and Girls Club!
