A group of individuals to promote cricket in Delaware formed Delaware Cricket Club in 1995. It provided a platform for many local cricket players to develop and display their talents. Today, this club is recognized as one of the best cricket clubs in this region, for not only playing competitive cricket in major tournaments but also for upholding and living the true spirit of the sport.

Over the years, Delaware Cricket Club has grown considerably with over 35 team members from diverse age groups and ethnic backgrounds. The club comprises of students from local universities as well as professionals/executives working for corporations. Delaware Cricket Club has participated and found success in tournaments like Washington Cricket League, Cricket League of New Jersey, Philadelphia Cricket League, Turbo Cup and Greater Philadelphia Cricket League.

Waqas Shahid is one of the founders of Delaware Cricket Club.

President Khurshid Alam played Cricket in college and after coming to the U.S. formed alliances with key people to promote cricket in this region. He plays cricket religiously and a spin bowler. He is referred to as “The Magician” in this area. Khurshid Alam was the “best bowler” in Philadelphia Cricket League in 2012.

Chief Executive Waqas Shahid, was one of the founders of Delaware Cricket Club. Waqas has been playing cricket since the age of five and represented the following teams: (LCCA) Lahore City Cricket Association U-19 and First class, Yorkshire England as a pro player, Atlantic Region USA, USA National team.

Waqas is an All Rounder and serves as a Vice President for Greater Philadelphia Cricket League, in addition to being a great cricket player and a mentor to young cricketers in this area. He was also adjudged as “Best Batsman” in Philadelphia Cricket League in 2012. Also won the best batsman award several times in Washington Cricket League. Scored the most runs overall and in a calendar year 950 runs. Has scored 19 centuries alone in WCL.

Captain/Vice President Amir Rafique, joined Delaware Cricket Club in 1999. Amir is a wicket keeper batsman and holds a unique record of scoring a double century in a T20 match in September 2010.

He was the “Best Batsman” in Philadelphia Cricket League in 2011.
