It saddened me to report the passing of our friend and colleague umpire Jerry Kishun known to most of us as Uncle Jerry.

The story emanating around his death is not clear but one fact remains crystal clear is that it was a hit and run. Jerry was on his way to work very early on Thursday morning when his vehicle rear ended another vehicle on the Grand Central Parkway and he stepped out to inspect the damage when another vehicle hit him and left the scene.

He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital where he later succumbs to his injuries.

Jerry was an avid cricketer in his playing days and he has a passion for the game like most of us do.

That passion led to his refusal to let go of the sport and so got involved in umpiring after his playing days.

When he is not on umpiring assignment; you can be sure to find him somewhere looking at a cricket game.

He umpired in many Premier Tournament in New York including the NY Red Stripe Tournaments, The Caribbean Cup, several USACA Regional Tournaments and numerous Inter-League Tournaments. He was a member of the United States of America Cricket Umpires’ Association. (USACUA) officiating in the Brooklyn Cricket League and Nassau Cricket League, but we believe his heart and loyalty was with the Eastern American Cricket Association. He has been an umpire in the EACA for many years. Many of us only know Uncle Jerry as an umpire in NY but he started umpiring long before he left Guyana.

Uncle Jerry was a very courteous, humble and well liked individual and he always greet you with a smile. He was well respected among the cricket fraternity in NY; especially in the Eastern American Cricket Association.

Our deepest condolence goes out to his entire family.

May the good Lord grant you Eternal Rest on your new journey.

Services will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church located at 102-06 129th Street in Richmond Hill.
Friday and Saturday from 6pm to 9pm and on Sunday from 2pm to 6pm.
The funeral will be on Monday beginning at 9am at the same location.

With deepest regrets,
Eastern American Cricket Association
President – Rudy Persaud.
