The Napa Valley Cricket Club will again host its “World Series” on Sunday 13th April 2014 from 10 a.m. at the Napa County Fairgrounds in Calistoga to kick off its 2014 season. In 2013 for the second year running the America & Australia team of club members triumphed over a Rest of the World team. It’s no surprise then that this year’s game looks like being a hotly contested one with a number of new members joining the club over the winter months.
Cricket is the second most popular sport in the world after soccer and The Napa Valley Cricket Club is now a firmly established member of that community. Cricket is played in over 100 countries worldwide and close to home the game has a strong and passionate following in the South Bay area. It is gaining in popularity and recently the NCAA held the American College Cricket Championships in Florida.

The Napa Valley club consists mainly of expatriates mostly brought to The Napa Valley because of the wine industry from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, India the UK and Ireland. The club has also attracted a number of “local” Americans who play with the team having made the transition from baseball to cricket!
Club President Phil Bourke, an Australian, who works at Treasury Wine Estates, says, “The World Series game has become our annual season opener and attracts a large crowd of both cricket lovers and those just interested in seeing the game played in the Napa Valley. Like last year we are really trying to involve the community in the day and will have music, kids activities along with gourmet hot dogs from Rebel Dog and wine from our sponsor Clos du Val and beer from sponsor Napa Point for sale. 2013 was a great year for us with our first away trip to Los Angeles on top of hosting the oldest cricket club in America, Philadelphia, who were founded in 1854. 2014 is shaping up to be another great year with Beverly Hills Hollywood CC visiting in May in addition to teams from the Bay Area throughout the summer. The club has grown both in membership and reach and this year we’re delighted to welcome on board over 20 sponsors, many of them new in 2014.”
Rest of the World team captain, New Zealand winemaker Bill Nancarrow says, “I think the folks who come along for our World Series are in for a great day of cricketing entertainment. Our Rest of the World team is brimming with excitement and looking to make amends for what truthfully was a poor performance in 2013. The addition of a couple of new members over the winter has given us more depth and we are looking strong in all three disciplines, batting, bowling and fielding”
Australia / America team captain, Australian Rob Bolch says, “As two times winners of our World Series game we’re looking to complete the hat-trick by winning the 2014 game. Last year we had a couple of standout performances with both bat and ball and we’re looking for the same again this year. Our ground at the Calistoga Fairgrounds will look resplendent on the day and big thanks to Carlene Moore and her team there for their support of our club. It will be a great day out for those who come to enjoy it but we know that the “A/A” team will end up victorious, again!”

The Napa Valley Cricket Club is a 501(c)(4) non-profit Mutual Benefit Corporation with the purpose of establishing an running an amateur cricket club in the Napa Valley to further the social enjoyment and development of cricket and associated events within the area. Formed in 2012 and about to start it’s third season the Napa Valley Cricket Club welcomes adult players of all skill levels.
