Metropolitan Cricket League
Great start for Sheffield Cricket Club this past weekend as they took Suburbia Cricket Club to task in the second round of games in the Metropolitan Cricket League (MCL) Busta Lawrence 40/40 Challenge Cup, in what was reduced to a 36 over contest.

From the outset Sheffield CC were able to execute their plans almost to perfection, by posting a massive total, and then defending that it soundly. Every player made a contribution to secure the first victory of our MCL campaign.

Continuing the good form from the MCL Super 6s Cup, Sheffield CC won the toss and batted first. The opening put on a partnership of 81 in just 7.3 overs, dominated by Ahmad Dodson’s 55 mentored by the steady head of Dennis Evans, top scorer on the day with 119, was just the catapult Sheffield CC needed to post a total of 343/6 in 36 overs. A knock of pure poise by Mr. Dennis Evans, along with support from Akeem Dodson 53, Andrae Hooper 48 and Keith Haynes 18, led the team to a total that would prove insurmountable.

In response Suburbia CC were skittle out for a merger 124 all out in 23.4 overs, with 5 wickets to former West Indies pacer Jermaine Lawson, 2 wickets each to Delon Anthony Moffett and Dennis Evans and one for Jawanza Young the new recruit.

Great mention should also go to the support and effort shown by Damion Watson, Javed Jaja, Montana Duncan and Josef Duncan.

The hunt continues next week as Sheffield CC take on the first of the Metropolitan Cricket League giants and host Westbury CC at Floyd Bennett Field.
