Brooklyn Cricket League
Just this past weekend on August 24 & 25, Diplomats Sports Club treated their supporters to some exciting cricket, first by ruining the Sheffield Cricket Club’s chance of advancing in the Brooklyn League regular forty-over play-offs.

After claiming the toss for tardiness on the part of Sheffield in preparing the pitch, the Diplomats batsman started a run rampage with one of Diplomats star players and vice-captain Trinson Carmichael scoring 129 runs followed by Kelvin Charles 31 and skipper Selwyn Smith 30. At the end of forty overs the Diplomats had amassed a huge total of 255 runs.
Bowling for Sheffield I. Iman bagged an impressive 3 wickets for 37 runs and F. Moffet 3 wickets for 63 runs. In response the Sheffield team was routed out for a paltry 88 runs. G. Hall top scored with 42 followed by H. Mohammed 14. The damage to the Sheffield batting was caused by Trinson Carmichael who bagged 2 wickets for nine runs, Keith Eddie 2 wickets for 12 runs and Garvin Smith 2 wickets for 21 runs. There by giving Diplomats a resounding victory by 167 runs.
Shakeel Williams scored his first century for the Diplomats Sports Club in the first round of the Brooklyn Cricket League 35 – over knock-out competition on August 25 against Queensbury Cricket Club. Shakeel was ably assisted by Christopher Van Tull who scored 57 in a fourth wicket partnership of 125 runs. Other scorers were Garvin Smith 29 not out, Keith Eddie 26 and Orin Prince 11 not out.
Bowling for Queensbury Cricket Club A. McCarty 2 wickets for 32 runs; R. Henry 2 wickets for 59 runs; J. Shortte 1 wicket for 36 and I. Martin 1 wicket for 50 runs. In the end Queensbury scored 97 with H. Stanford 24 A. McCarthy 23 and skipper J. Shortte contributing 17. Bowling for Diplomats Inzy Khan bagged 5 wickets for 27 runs; Shakeel Williams 4 wickets for 16 runs and Garvin Smith 1 wicket for 27 runs. Diplomats won by 184 runs and advanced to the next round of the 35 over knock-out competition.
On Sunday September 8, Diplomats Sports Club will oppose Imperial Cricket Club for the League Championship Trophy (40 over) commencing at 12 noon and on Saturday September 14, the same two clubs will oppose each other for T-20 Championship trophy.
