In 2008 the PSAL introduced cricket as a varsity sport in the high schools with thirteen schools scheduled to compete for the first ever high school cricket championship in the United States of America.

Regular season matches were played from April – June and history was made when Newcomers won the PSAL Inaugural Cricket Championship.

After four successful years the New York City Public School Athletic Cricket League (PSAL) kicked off the 2012 cricket season on April 2nd with over three hundred official matches scheduled to be played from April – May.
