Mc Lennon And Sookhoo Share Honors As Unity Outplays Soldier Boys
In the second round of the NYSCL 25 Overs competition played last weekend, Unity took on Soldier Boys in Flushing. Winning the toss, Unity asked their opponents to bat first.

Vibert Mc Lennon of Unity had match figures of 5 for 29 against Soldier Boys.

At the end of their allotted overs, Soldier Boys made 200 runs for 9 wickets with Mahesh batting splendidly and top scoring with a well played 73 runs and Ramdin contributing 34 runs to his team’s efforts.

Bowling for Unity, Vibert Mc Lennon in one of his most memorable bowling performance was virtually unplayable, creating havoc for Soldier Boys batsmen and eventually ending up with the fine figures of 5 wickets for 29 runs including having four batsmen clean bowled. He was ably supported by Vejai Prashad with 2 wkts for 32 runs.

Unity chasing 201 runs for a win achieved this feat very comfortably in 23.3 overs whilst losing 6 wickets in the process. Once again, Unity’s reply was given a great boost by their very experienced, reliable and dependable opener Steve Sookhoo who accumulated another half century following his match winning 55 runs last weekend. His innings of 70 runs was invaluable to his team’s effort to secure victory.

Contributing with the bat also was one of Unity’s young, energetic and dynamic rising star, all rounder Vejai Prashad who blasted a quick fire undefeated 38 runs.

To our players, congratulations are in order. However, we should note and remind ourselves the march towards our ultimate goal continues.

Ricky And Ryan Rise Sunrise Over New Horizon
After losing their first close match to Wildfire Sunrise team was very keen to register a win. Deryck Basdeo, Sunrise captain winning the toss and discussing the wet pitch condition with his bowlers it was agreed to have a bowl. A. Sunasi and A. Khan open for New Horizon and were faced with Kalif Salim and Khemraj Somaru. Both batsmen looked settled scoring freely keeping up a 6 runs average to start. Khan who was the aggressive hitter looks like trouble for Sunrise opening bowlers. Somaru in second over was hit hard by Khan to deep fine leg as Ricky diving to his left took an astonishing catch to give Sunrise a breakthrough in the 4th overs and the score at 22. V. Cooblall joined Sunasi but things took a sharp turn when Ricky Deenu was introduced in the 8th over. Sunasi was sent packing as Selwyn Cheong took leaping catch at short mid on, Roy was gone also caught by Cheong, and G. Gunraj give a easy popup to Deryck at mid on setting up a hatrick as Ricky finished his 1s over with 3 maiden wickets denting New Horizon at 42 for 4.

Ricky Deenu took for 4 for 15 against New Horizon.

Deryck struck in his 2nd over having Cooblall caught at cover by Roopnarine Dayal  and right after in his 4th over had R. Singh caught for 0 at short mid off by Cheong leaving the score 46 for 6 in the 11th over. Right after Ricky strike again to clean bowl Darren for 0 as New Horizon at the 13 over half was 61 for 7.

New Horizon pair Ravin and Navin looks like they were prepared to build a comeback partnership with Navin hitting the ball solid. Sunrise strike bowler seem to not able to get this pair out, but Shane Manbodh bowling at number  5 breakup this partnership as he clean bowl Ravin for 8 in the 16th over. In Somaru last over he took care of business wrapping up New Horizon batsmen having Trevor caught behind by the keeper Wahab Hussein, and in his last delivery bowled Navin with a beautiful out swinger that clipped the bails off.  Navin batted very well and lead his team with 27 runs, as New Horizon was wrapped up for 89 in 19th overs.

Ricky looked sharp and poised with his bowling leading the Sunrise bowlers with 4 wickets in 4overs, 1 maiden, and 15 runs.  Somaru closed the game with an astounding last over as his took 3 wickets in 4 overs for 21 runs. Deryck was brilliant as well as he picked up 2 wickets in 4 overs for 18 run with 1 maiden. Shane who took 4 wickets in the first match continues his strong bowling as he bowled for 2-0-4-1.

Ryan Ramjas led the batting of Sunrise with a knock of 34.

Sunrise opening batsmen Roopnarine Dayal and Ryan Ramjas were very cautious in their batting trying to put their first game poor performance behind them. We saw both batsmen moving the ball around scoring singles and double keeping up the run rate in this wet out field. New Horizon used five bowlers to try and penetrate Dayal and Ryan batting with no success. Dayal and Ryan was cruising along midway to New Horizon total as Dayal was caught behind for 13 with score at 40 in the 9th over. It was promising batting by the opening pair as runs was not easy to come in this wet out field. Ryan had many towering strokes to square leg and mid wicket only to see it drop and die before it meet the boundary. Deryck joined Ryan who playing fine strokes with a solid defense and they both looked settled and were on target to win the total set by New Horizon. Deryck who was moving the ball around looked confidence at the crease. However in the 16th over and after 37th runs partnership with the score at 77 Deryck was caught at long on off the bowling of A. Khan for 13. With 13 runs to make Sunrise sent in young Alex Hussein who had solid 25 runs knock against Wildfire to close this game. However Alex did not fear well as he hit the first ball solid right back to the bowler. In the next over Ryan who was leading the batting was caught, Wahab Hussein was run out, and Shane Manbodh was caught behind as Sunrise caught a batting hiccup losing 3 quick wickets with the score at 80 for 6 in the 17th over.  Kalif who made 52 runs not out in his first match blasted a four to end the game in the 20th over as Sunrise register their 1st win for the 2011 season.

Ryan batted intelligently looked like a wall with his defense stroke lead Sunrise batting with a knock of 34 runs.

For New Horizon A. Khan was deadly in his one over as he picked up 2 for 2. While Roy bowling spell reads 5-2-13-2, and Sanjay went for 3-0-11-1.
