USACA Announces Squads With New Faces

The United States of America Cricket Association today announced a 14-man squad for the 2011 ICC Americas Division One T20 tournament scheduled for the Central Broward Regional Park in Lauderhill, FL from July 18-23.

The squad includes Quasen Alfred, Timroy Allen, Orlando Baker, Akeem Dodson, Bhim George, Muhammad Ghous, Adrian Gordon, Steve Massiah, Aditya Mishra, Nauman Mustapha, Japen Patel, Gowkaran Roopnarine, Samarath Shah, and Usman Shuja.

The reserves are: Syed Fareed Ahmad, Moazzam Imtiaz, Ricky Singh, and Timmy Thomas.

Team USA, defending champions having won the inaugural tournament last year, will see the addition of six new faces to the squad in Alfred, George, Mishra, Mustapha, Patel and Shah.

Team USA will compete against Argentina, Bermuda, Canada, Cayman Islands, and Suriname. The schedule will see three matches being played each day at the Central Broward Regional Park Cricket Stadium.

The top two teams from this tournament will advance to the ICC T20 Global World Cup Qualifier to be held in Dubai in March, 2012.

The selectors also named the US Under-19 team to compete in the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup Global Qualifier in Ireland next month. That tournament will be held from July 28 to August 9, 2011; however the USA squad will leave for Ireland on July 19 and return on August 10.

The USA 14-man squad includes: Salman Ahmad, Shayan Abdul Ghani, Abhijit Joshi, Cameron Mirza, Prashanth Nair, Amarnauth Persaud, Mital Patel, Grupreet Sandhu, Gregory Sewdial, Hammad Shahid, Pranay Suri, Jodhbir Singh, Trevor Singh, and Steven Taylor.

Trevor Singh was included in the USA Under-19 squad.

Reserves: Kalim Ahmed, Shoaib Choudhry, Prumjot Panesar, Jasdeep Singh.

The US will face Afghanistan, Canada, Namibia, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, Ireland, Kenya, Scotland, and Vanuatu.

Six teams will advance to join the 10 ICC Full Members in the 2012 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

In preparation for Ireland, the USA will play four matches against a West Indies Under-19 team at the Central Broward Regional Park Cricket Stadium in Lauderhill, Florida, on July 8, 10, 12 and 14.
