Tri State Lynx sounded a warning to the field of competitors when they trashed New York Warriors to kick off the Tri State Development women’s 50 overs league last Saturday at Gateway Park in Brooklyn.

The game lived up to all expectations for Lynx as they completely outplayed Warriors mainly due to a historic batting performance by Lorena Vitte.

The former St Lucia national played slammed the first ever century in women’s competition in New York to carry Lynx to a massive 160-run victory.

Opening the batting, Vitte amassed an even 100 before retiring as Lynx compiled 314 runs for five wickets batting first. They then undermined Warriors, bowling them out for a meager 154 in 40 overs.

Vitte shared a century opening stand with Indomatie Goordial-John to set the foundation for the overwhelming victory. Goordial-John struck 47 and along with Triholder Marshall who chipped in with 45 and Shebani  Bhaskar with 33, set Lynx on their way.

Marshall and Goordial- John returned with the ball to restrict the Warriors by capturing two wickets each for 20 and 23 runs respectively.

Only Catherine Jones offered resistance for Warriors carrying her bat for 50 while Joan Alexander contributed 23.

Alexander earlier took two of the five Tri state Lynx’s wickets to fall.

The competition, the first women’s domestic club competition in New York was given a rousing send off by the presence of a number of top officials in New York at the opening function.

John Warburg, a resident of Connecticut who is offering considerable support to the development of women’s cricket in the country, was among the observers who witnessed Lynx’s impressive display.

Kris Prasad, the current New York representative to the United States of America Cricket Association, was there along with former New York Director Clifford Hinds, national selector Sew Shivnarine and Nigel Harper, the New York cricket committee’s board member responsible for youth development.  The women’s equivalent on the committee Venelda Wallace was also in attendance.

The competition will continue this Saturday with New York Warriors taking on New Jersey Phoenix in New Jersey.
