Wahid Ward hit a scorching century to lead Richmond Hill Liberty Cricket Club to a commanding 194 runs victory over Galaxy Cricket Club.

Wahid Ward hit a 53 ball century to highlight the day and set up a 194 runs win for RHLCC.

The two teams met in the third round of the Eastern American Cricket Association, Division One play on Sunday at The Cricket Cage in Baisley Park. Jamiel Jackman and Inzy Khan returned with the ball to lead RHLCC’s defense with a combined 10 over opening spell, scalping 4 wickets for 30 runs.

Taking first strike the #TheBlueNation boys looked ominous with Christopher VanTull taking Keeran Krishan for three consecutive boundaries in the first over. Krishna answered by removing VanTull to bring Ward to the crease, joining Dominique Rikhi.

Rikhi struck four 4’s and a maximum in his knock with Ward. The pair amassed 135 runs for the second wicket before Rikhi departed. The typically aggressive Ward dominated the day; he brought up his half century in just 26 balls hitting five sixes and two boundaries. Joined by the prolific Trevor Henry for the third wicket Ward kept the assault going.

On the 53rd ball of his inning Ward brought up his century. He was especially brutal on the spinners taking 31 off of one over highlighting his dominance. When he was dismissed on the 55th ball of his inning Ward had piled on eight fours and the same number of maximums in his inning of 106.

Henry was the next top scorer with 30 before RHLCC ended their inning on 263 for 9. Krishna and Yudesh Bissnauth picked up 3 wickets each while Kevin Nazir grabbed 2 and Vijay Seonarine 1 for Galaxy CC.

Jamiel Jackman took up the new ball for RHLCC and continued the dominance which was started by the batting. The young speedster bowled with pace and accuracy and was immediately rewarded when he knocked over the GCC skipper, Yudish Bissnauth with the third ball of the inning. He followed up with star batsman Akshay Homraj’s scalp, trapping him leg-before-wicket two balls later.

Inzy Khan, partnering Jackman with the new ball, followed up with a double strike of his own in the 4th over of the chase to reduce GCC to 7 runs for 4 wickets by the end of the over. The opening pair reeled off ten topnotch overs giving up only 30 runs. Jackman led the way with 2 wickets for 9 off his 5 overs while Khan finished his spell with 2 wickets for 21 runs off his 5 overs.

Jamiel Jackman led RHLCC’s attack from the front with his spell of 2 wickets for 9 runs off 5 overs.

Rafeek Nazeer and Zuli Ali band aid the GCC inning with knocks of 30 and 21 respectively but it was not enough to prevent RHLCC bowlers from dominating. Skipper, Trinson Carmichael, removed both batsmen before Altaaf Habibulla wrapped up the tail with 3 wickets for 25 runs off 3.1 overs.

The win keeps RHLCC undefeated going into the Memorial Day weekend with two wins and a no-result the previous week against Big Apple Cricket Club due to wet outfield. #TheBlueNation boys head east out to Hicksville take on Victory Cricket Club when the league resumes following the Memorial Day weekend break.
