Indiana Youth Cricket has launched its Cricket Coaching Certification program for Indiana-licensed Physical Education teachers. The program has been developed with input from various administrators and PE teachers. IYCA has also adopted NFHS recommendations for coaching in high schools, with the intention of cricket becoming a varsity sport in the future. IYCA is very fortunate to have both the NFHS & NCAA headquartered in Indianapolis, and has benefited from the assistance of many who work with these organizations.

27 IPS teachers are in the first group to receive IYCA coaching certification, starting in January 2013. Overall, 53 teachers have completed the Basics of Cricket program with more to come during 2013. Cricket was also promoted at the inaugural IPS (Indianapolis Public Schools) Super School Wellness Festival on March 2. USYCA Cricket Sets were on display and Indiana Youth Cricket provided the “How To Play Cricket” videos, while raising youth cricket program awareness during the festival. At this event were Radio Disney, “Biggest Loser” contestant Allen Smith, and “Boomer,” the mascot of the NBA’s Indiana Pacers. Katherine Langdon, IPS Program Director and lead Instructor for IPS school cricket program received her “Basics of Cricket” Certificate at the event.
According to Ms. Langdon, the IPS district-wide cricket launch during 2013 spring is very exciting, with plans in the works to have interschool cricket games this summer.

Jatin Patel of IYCA said, “We are becoming more focused on Stage Two, developing youth school cricket teams in Indiana, and in the process developing local coaches (mainly teachers in school) and umpires, which are very critical. We need to have both components before we start interschool competitive cricket.”
