Meten-Meer-Zorg (MMZ) Superstars played a double header last Saturday in Canarsie, Brooklyn. The first game was the Quarter final match up between the Superstars and Brooklyn Knights.
Brooklyn Knights won the toss and decided to take first strike and were bundled out for 109 after an aggressive start by Yasir 29 and Oawn 55. All the bowlers bowled well, the man with the golden arm former Guyana player Richard Ramdeen bagged 5 for 19 from his 4 overs, USA player Azurdeen Mohammed 3 for 11 from 2 overs, Kaleem Bux 4 overs 1 for 19 and Telston Johnson 1 for 21.
MMZ Superstars hit off the runs in quick time with skipper Azurdeen Mohammed smashing a brilliant half century 54 which includes 9 glorious fours, Richard Ramdeen played well for his for 25. The talented USA under player Randall Wilson 22 not out and Asif Ahmad 5 not out saw the Superstars through to the Semi Finals with MMZ finishing at 113 for 3 off 11 overs.
In the late afternoon game where the MMZ waited for their opponent Punjab who had just defeated a strong Shadi Eleven team in a close game over at the 88th Street ground.
Game got under way just about 3:30 pm, MMZ skipper won the toss and decided to bat first , Richard Ramdeen and Mohammed got of to a quick start, Mohammed was out caught at long on for 35, Debo Sankar didn’t last long caught for 1, in walked the talented Randall Wilson who batted superbly with his senior partner Ramdeen who was plundering the Punjab bowling to all parts of the field as he raced to his fifty with a spanking cover drive, Ramdeen and Wilson played some sensible cricket to bring up the century mark for the Superstars in the 12th over. Ramdeen looking set for a big hundred, on 87 he mistimed an extra cover shot and held out to the man on the boundary, his knock includes 12 sweetly timed fours and one massive six, Wilson was joined by the hard hitting Telston Johnson who batted well for a quick fire 25. Wilson was left not out on 42, Superstars end up with 183 for 4 off their 20 overs.
Punjab hoping to end the MMZ boys run for the title was skittle out for 106 with Usman the only batsman to show any resistance with a swashbuckling 51. Telston Johnson cleaned up the openers early. The skipper introduce the promising New York under-19 player Rafeek Nazeer into the bowling attack who bowled a brilliant spell of 3 overs 3 wkts for 10 runs including the wicket of the attacking Usman. The golden arm of Richard Ramdeen picked up 2 for 15 off 3.
MMZ superstars will now meet the dangerous and fierce NY Tigers who have some powerful players in their den. These two teams are meeting for the first time in the competition.
The final is slated for Saturday at 80th Street and Seaview in Brooklyn, time is 11: 30 am.
The Tigers reached the finals by defeating Bedessee Destroyers routing them out for a paltry 96 runs in their quarter finals and then get pass Strikers in the semifinals game.
The New York Tigers squad is: Steve Massiah, Barrington Bartley, Rashad Marshall, Syed Abdullah, Imran Awan, Akeem Dodson, Jermaine Lawson, Neil McGarell, Glenn Hall, Micky Alexis, Saroosh Nadeem, Imran Aslam, Dawood Ahmad, William Perkins and Daniel Ahmad.
