Atlantis Climbs Over Everest/ACS
In the second week of the Eastern American Cricket Association’s 2015 season, and on a glorious day for cricket at Lido Beach, Atlantis Cricket Club – NY cruised to a 2-0 record, defeating Everest/ACS by 53 runs.

Everest won the toss and offered first-strike to Atlantis, who accepted on a strip supported by a glorious outfield, and a gentle south eastern breeze blowing off the Atlantic Ocean. However, Atlantis was off to a bad start losing the wicket, that of its vice-captain Ryan Sukhdeo in the first over without scoring; caught off the bowling of Charlton Senior. An in-form and returning USA national Nicholas Standford, along with Shawn Mason, steadied things a bit contributing 38 and 16 respectively, before giving way to a much more aggressive partnership of Jamal Hinckson (49 ) 5x4s, 3x6s and skipper Alex Amsterdam (32) 5x4s. Wahid Ward did not stick around long enough to enjoy the view, as he departed after posting a single.
At this stage it was very doubtful whether Atlantis with such a deep batting line-up would reach 200 runs. That thought would be painfully true, as the remaining five listed batsmen collectively contributed exactly that many runs off their bats, with the Atlantis total climaxing at 157 all out in 29.1 overs.
Bowling for Everest/ACS Aun Merchant with figures of 4-0-24-4, was easily the pick of the bowlers, followed by Muneshwar Patandin with 7.1-0-13-3 and Charlton Senior with 2 for 21 off 5 overs, including one maiden. Extras contributed 16.
In reply, Atlantis’s bowling stepped up on a day when its batting had stepped down. The team’s fielding also made more than just a cameo appearance contributing with five catches, while the bowling produced for dismissals via rearrangement of the batsmen’s furniture, and one LBW decision.
Batting for Everest/ACS, Glen Meyers top scored with 29 (2x4s), followed by Aun Merchant with 21, USA national Karen Ganesh, 19 (3x4s), and veteran Terry Hastoo chipped in with 13. The other seven batsmen failed to reach double-figures, including two non-scoring dismissals, as Everest/ACS fell, all out at the 29.4 over mark for 115 total. Extras contributed 11 ticks.
Bowling for Atlantis: Skipper Alex Amsterdam enjoyed figures of 8-0-30-4, followed by Keon Lake 8-1-32-3. Nazim Uddin, Greg Robinson and Prashanth Nair, each grabbed a wicket for 3, 13 and 28 respectively.
Interestingly, both teams left more than 10 overs each on the table, in the 40-Overs contest.
Atlantis plays Richmond Hill next, on Sunday, May 31 – Venue TBA.
