Former West Indies batting star Brian Lara will join a star-studded array of cricket legends who will descend on South Florida this weekend to participate in the second Lawrence Rowe legendary Foundation celebrity cricket weekend.
The weekend kicks off with a meet-and-greet at the Fort Lauderdale Marriott on Friday evening, followed by a gala banquet on Saturday night at the same venue. The events will conclude with two cricket games on Sunday at the Central Broward Regional Park. The first game at 11:00 AM will pit the 2015 Newberry ACCL champions against a South Florida X1, while the second and final game, which gets underway at 3:00PM, will see the Legends taking on a powerful USA Cavalier X1.
Lara will be joined by some of his former teammates including Dwayne Smith, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Ridley Jacobs and Jermaine Lawson. Along with Desmond Haynes, Gus Logie, Joel “Big Bird” Garner, Larry Gomes and South Africa’s Barry Richards. The Legends will be looking for a repeat performance to make it two-in-a-row as they defeated the USA Cavaliers in the first meeting last year, thanks to a brilliant century from Brian Lara.
Other Legends who will be on hand to witness the events will be Sir Garfield Sobers and Sir Andy Roberts, along with Rohan Kanhai and Lance Gibbs.
