Spearheaded by solid performances from Chetram Persaud and Kumar Joseph, New York Tri State Development drew first blood by outplaying Connecticut in the Tri State Under-23 50 overs cricket competition at Gateway Park in Brooklyn last Saturday.
Chetram Persaud led New York Tri State Development batting with an unbeaten 63.
The opening match was highlighted by Chetram Persaud with the bat who struck a solid half century to carry New York to a comfortable five-wicket victory over the visiting team.
Persaud stroked an unbeaten 63 in spurring New York to 218-5 in reply to Connecticut’s 217 all out as batsmen from both sides found the going tough after the latter won the toss.
New York’s next best score was 36 from Looknauth Chinkoo while Matthew Lutchena supported with 28. B. Imran had two wickets for 29 runs for Connecticut who were rattled by Joseph, who bagged four wickets for 29 runs with strong support from Chinkoo with 3-15, leaving their batsmen with a modest in target in the first round encounter.
Bitushan Ganaghe was one of three Connecticut batsmen to offer resistance with a solid 46 and despite 33 runs each from Jaquan Robinson and Karan Singh, it was not enough for them to pose a threatening score.
New Jersey will begin their quest for honors against Connecticut at Waterbury, in the latter state while New York players interested in breaking into their squad will have a tryout this Saturday at Gateway. Any eligible player can show up.
Also New York Academy under coach Ricky Kissoon has been added to the competition making it a four team series.
