Justifiably, ardent cricket fan and popular Queens Village accountant Jai Sharma will be honored with a memorial Fun Day which will include the must-have cricket game this Saturday June 11th.

Sharma, originally from Guyana’s West Coast of Demerara, is well known among some of Guyana’s past cricket elites including the legendary Clive Lloyd, arguably West Indies’ greatest team captain. Alvin Kallicharran, part of Lloyd’s Dream Team, which dominated world cricket for 15 years, the classy middle order batsman who is famous for hooking Australian fast bowling great Dennis Lillee for sixes in the 1975 World Cup en-route to West Indies winning its first Global title, is also a close friend of Jai.

The action will be at Idlewild Cricket Ground in Queens and will include karaoke, dominoes, card games and a live DJ. It is titled the Jai (Prak) Sharma Event.

It is hoped that Lloyd will attend but for sure ex-Guyana national players Dereck Kallicharan, Tyrone Etwaroo and Amarnauth Ramcharitar will be there. Other notables who Jai has befriended over the years include fast bowlers Sydney Matthews, Ray Joseph, Linden Fraser and Victor Benjamin.

Sharma migrated to the United States after acquiring a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting in England. He developed a love for cricket at Meten-Meer-Zorg village where he was raised and fancied himself as a pacer and got the nickname “Wobble” because his skinny legs would wobble in his delivery run-up. Jai also fancied himself as a big-time cook and loved to dish out curries like the duck, and hassa varieties.

He dies due to complications from the corona virus and has left to mourn siblings who he once proudly stated were all made to study hard by their father in their youthful days to become professionals later in life, and his children including his angel Anjalie.

Idlewild Park is located at 223 Street in Rosedale and everyone is invited with the proceedings beginning from 11am.
