Queens United Sports Club won by five runs
In another close encounter, Queens United and Westbury clashed at Idlewild Park in Queens. Like the Villagers vs. Atlantis contest in Brooklyn, the match came down to the wire.
Queens United won the toss and opted to bat, posting a total of 267 primarily behind the bat of overseas registrant Carlos Brown, 92 (5x6s, 5x4s) off 79 balls, and missing out on a ton caught by overseas registrant wicketkeeper Daniel Beckford off the bowling of Ryan Bennett. Other worthwhile contributions came from overseas registrant Akeem Dewar, 45, veteran and former USA national captain Richard Staple and Naveer Ramsarran, with 27 each. The Queens United wickets fell at 44, 51, 95, 209, 216, 232, and 247.
Set almost seven runs per over for the victory, Westbury was off to an impressive start with openers Richard Allen, 128 off 111 balls (7x6s, 10x4s) and Roberto Simpson, 49 (1×6, 5x4s) posting 129 for the opening partnership before Simpson made way for overseas registrant Daniel Beckford. Westbury’s next wicket fell 43 runs later, with the third wicked falling 43 runs after that. It became a race to the finish, but Westbury was running out of artillery and human resources.
Overseas registrant Joseph Brown made a gallant effort to hold up the middle scoring a quick fire 18 off ten balls (2x6s) in his not-out cameo appearance. Except for Kemar Marshall, 16, all the other batters failed to emerge from single digits. Extras outshone them all with 27, as Westbury fell at 262 for nine in their 40 overs. The remaining Westbury wickets fell at 225 for 4, 237 for 5, 239 for 6, 239 for 7, 259 for 8, and 261 for 9. Gavin Brown enjoyed figures of 8-0-30-5, capturing his first fiver of the season and Man-of-the-Match award. Damion Jacobs had 2 for 61 off, and overseas registrant Oraine Williams had 1 for 47 off his seven overs. To say it was a nail-biter of a finish would be an understatement. Such is exciting and top-quality cricket in the Metropolitan league this season.

Spice Island vs. Staten Island Cricket Club
Spice Island Cricket Club won by 267 runs.
Spice Island won the toss and elected to have a bat. They racked up a mammoth 326 for the loss of two wickets in 30 overs. Leading the board was overseas registrant Keon George not out on 119 (3x6s, 10x4s) as he led from the opening delivery. His opening partner Larando Best, another overseas registrant, posted 64 (3x6s, 4x4s) before exiting caught Rajiv Ahamad bowled Aneal Rooplal. The other contributors to the triple-century plus were Alex Alexander, 56 not out, Clint Chaste, 38, and the other notable contributor who plays on all teams, Mr. Extras, 49.
The two spicy wickets were tasted by Aneal Rooplal 1-0-18-1 and Salim Khan 3-0-33-1. Wides contributed 36 to the bowlers’ tally.
Facing a massive 10.89 per over mountain to climb, Staten Island knew it was no walk in the park at their Walker Park home ground. Staten Island pushed off on the wrong foot losing their openers Alex Miller and Glen Felix for 2 and 0, respectively. Imal Jayskody started jogging but dropped out after 16 strides, sorry runs, off 49 balls, including one four. The only other Staten Island batter to hit double strides was Salim Khan, not out on 11 off 18 deliveries, including one boundary. Extras contributed 12, as the Staten Island walk at Walker Park ended after just 59 runs in 22.3 overs.
Jeremy Warwick was the pick of the bowlers at 5.3-2-11-4, followed by Kemron Alexander at 6-0-18-3. Lazrus Marrast had 2 for 11 off his three overs.

Atlantis Cricket Club – NY vs. Villagers Sports Club
Villagers Sports Club won by five wickets.
Built as the premier match of the week, both teams did not disappoint the scores of fans gathered at the Roy Sweeney Cricket Oval off the Belt Parkway in Brooklyn. After losing the toss, Atlantis was put in to bat by the Village Men.
Atlantis quickly lost Akeel Hoyte c. Wicketkeeper Tristan Coleman b. George Adams without scoring. However, the partnership of vice-skipper Randall Wilson and overseas player Kellon Carmichael promptly turned things around, with the duo posting a combined 103 runs – Wilson, 68 (4x6s, 6x4s) and Carmichael, 35 (2x6s, 2x4s). Other significant contributions came from overseas all-rounder Ronaldo Ali Mohammed, 70 (6x6s, 6x4s) with a strike rate of 212.12. Seth Maughn, the previous week’s top wicket-taker (7 for 24), made a cameo appearance with the bat, scoring 45 off 22 deliveries (4x6s, 4x4s) as he took the Villagers bowlers downtown and across town with relish and to the delight of the partisan crowd. Along the way, Prashanth Nair added 31, and Shawayne Kellman, playing his second game of the season, added 20 off 21 with ix6 and 1×4. The Atlantis inning closed out at 293, all out in 39.2 overs.
Bowling for Villagers: Alex Amsterdam 3 for 30, Barrington Bartley 2 for 58, George Adams 2 for 45, and Mike Alexis and Aldean Elliott each snaring one wicket apiece.
Taking to the middle with Alex Amsterdam and Tristan Coleman, Villagers posted 59 before Amsterdam, 22, retired hurt. At the other end, Coleman was bullying the Atlantis bowling before departing on 56 (6x6s, 4x4s) off 39 balls. The other two contributions that ensured the Villagers’ victory were Steve Messiah, 89 off 85 deliveries (1×6, 11x4s), and Cassius Burton, 67 (4x6s, 6x4s). The latter survived being caught when at just two. Xavier Burton, 29, an overseas registrant, was c&b Kellon Carmichael. Extras chipped in with 22 as Villagers reached 299 for 5 in 39 overs.
The villagers’ wickets fell at 59, 99, 121, 193, 275, and 292. Five of the eight bowlers used by Atlantis each grabbed one wicket apiece. Akeel Hoyte was the least expensive with figures of 1-0-8-1.

Suburbia Sports Club vs. Sheffield Cricket Club
Sheffield won by six wickets.
Suburbia won the toss and elected to bat. In 24 overs, they posted 108 all out. The top scorer was the team’s overseas registrant Janyo Beckford with 28. Also contributing to the 108 were Andre Lindsay, 24, Dean Burrell, 21, and Extras, 24. Sheffield’s Gajanand Singh and Abdur Rehman each enjoyed three wickets for 19 and 31, respectively. Abdullah Mohammed snatched two scalps for 19 off his four overs, while Ali Nawaz Shaw enjoyed 1 for eight off his two overs. The Suburbia wickets fell at 12, 62, 62, 62, 62, 63, 84, 102, 108, and 108.
Taking to the field as visitors to Roy Wilkins Park, Sheffield opened with Muhammad Ibrahim, 26 off 25 balls with two maximums, and Darius Gopaul, 0, having faced five deliveries. With some single-digit contributions, Sheffield reached 114 for the loss of four wickets behind the bats of Ali Nawaz Shaw, 37 off 34 deliveries, including five boundaries, and skipper Akeem Dodson, 24 off 20 (3x4s). Extras chipped in with 12. Veteran Cuthbert Mendonca was Suburbia’s most successful bowler with figures of 7-0-45-3, while Rohan Knight had one for 10. The wickets fell at 1 for 3, 2 for 15, 3 for 59, and 4 for 108.
