SCORECARD
The John David Williams tournament in American Cricket League match between Punjab C.C and Cambridge C.C at the Canarsie Cricket Ground on Aug. 9th delivered a spectacle of attacking batting, sharp bowling, and tense momentum swings before Punjab C.C sealed victory by 14 runs.

Punjab C.C, winning the toss and electing to bat, got off to a brisk start as Bilal Ahmad struck 22 off 17 balls before being caught and bowled by Luchen Lyn. Naseem Khushi kept the scoreboard ticking with a quick 40 from 32 deliveries, including six boundaries and a six. The innings, however, was anchored by Abdullah Syed, whose masterclass 100 off just 67 balls featured 11 fours and four towering sixes. His aggressive strokeplay propelled Punjab into a commanding position despite losing wickets at regular intervals.

Contributions from Usman Ali (22 off 12 balls) and Adeel Ahmad (14 off 19) provided further impetus, but Cambridge bowlers fought hard to restrict the damage. Rodwell Busgith (3/50) was the pick of the attack, while Luchen Lyn and Brandon English chipped in with two wickets each. Punjab were bowled out for 245 in 34.2 overs, leaving Cambridge a stiff target of 246 in 35 overs.

Cambridge C.C began their chase in whirlwind fashion, with opener Adrian Weir smashing 26 off just 11 balls. However, early wickets from Zafar Khan and Adeel Ahmad pegged them back. The middle order saw a mixture of brilliance and collapse—Kiran Sitaram’s 36 off 30 was balanced by ducks from Clive Winth and Romane Martin.

The real chase momentum came when Brandon English unleashed a blazing 50 off 30 balls, supported by Milton Luckain’s 25 and Rodwell Busgith’s 22. But Adeel Ahmad’s inspired spell (4/45) kept Punjab in the contest, striking crucial blows at key moments. Abdullah Syed, showing his all-round quality, claimed 2/58, including the wicket of Busgith, while Naseem Khushi added a scalp to his earlier batting exploits.

A late surge from Luchen Lyn (22 off 13) and Shamal Angel (31 off 21) brought Cambridge close to the target, but once both fell to Adeel Ahmad in quick succession, Punjab’s victory was in sight. Cambridge’s innings closed at 231 in 25.4 overs, just 14 runs short of glory.

For Punjab C.C, the win was built on the back of Abdullah Syed’s magnificent century and Adeel Ahmad’s decisive four-wicket haul. Cambridge’s spirited chase showcased their deep batting strength, but their inability to convert strong starts into match-winning partnerships proved costly.
