Excitement galore is highly anticipated on Saturday (2019-05-18) at Keele Top in North York, Toronto as the stage is set for the third annual Dassie in Association with Apollo Cricket Club six-a-side round-arm softball one-day extravaganza.
According to the organizer Damodar Daesrath, sixteen teams are expected to compete for a first prize of CD$1, 000 and trophy while other incentives and trophies at stake.
The day’s action is slated to bowl off at 10:00am. Assassin boys are the defending champions and no doubt will be looking to retain top honors.
Daesrath, who captained Guyana at the regional first-class level and then represented Canada internationally, has expressed great confidence of a well-entertained day of softball cricket from the regular and high-profile softball cricketers in Canada.
“I [am] definitely excited to have another tournament of this magnitude; I know these cricketers will want to showcase their talent and we have lots of prizes for the top performers,” the right-handed batsman Daesrath mentioned.
Daesrath reflected on the last two seasons and was delighted with the outcomes after some thrilling encounters.
“Well, it is about fun and I am sure the guys would want to play exciting and competitive cricket; we also have musical entertainment and Facebook commentary, so I am anxious to have the games going,” the Berbician related.
He further praised the sponsors for the day’s proceedings and with the same level of generosity shown from the past two events, the love for softball cricket continues to flourish.
“Definitely, I must say a big thank you to the sponsors to come on board again; I think it really shows people really love the game; obviously, me and Apollo Cricket Club want to have a very successful and exciting day,” Daesrath declared.
The format remains the same from the inaugural year and 2018 whereby the top two teams confronting each other in the five-over tournament.
According to Daesrath, a large number of sides have already confirmed their participation but more interesting teams are kindly asked to contact him for relevant information, if necessary. He can be reached via mobile at: 416-707-8331. Meanwhile, Daesrath also took the opportunity to say that his annual whiteball four-team inter-county is billed for June 22 at the same venue. On this occasion, Daesrath said, there will be an open and over-40 categories. Both victorious teams are guaranteed CD$2, 000 each.
