The ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 Central Organising Committee (COC), chaired by ICC Vice-President Sharad Pawar, met in Mumbai on Tuesday and approved the first phase of ticket sales for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 – less than nine months out from the tournament.
Meeting at the Cricket Centre, Wankhede Stadium, the COC confirmed that in excess of 100,000 tickets were being released for the first phase of online ticket sales and the prices began at as low as 20c USD.
Mr Pawar said afterwards: “The prices confirm the promise we made that the tickets would be affordable and accessible.
“I am sure that cricket lovers in India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka as well as those from around the world will be excited at the prospect of being able to plan their trips to the matches in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 and be a part of the Cup that Counts.”
The ticket system has been developed by Kyazoonga.com and the technology will, from 1 July 2010, allow spectators to pick tickets for specific teams and venues and will even be able to see exactly where their seat is situated within the ground.
Following the first phase of tickets being released, there will be further tickets available from stadium ticket offices and travel operators as well as further tickets being made available online.

ICC Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat expressed satisfaction at the general progress in preparing for the ICC flagship event. He said: “While there is a lot of important operational detail ahead of us, I am pleased at the progress we have made to date.
“For example, in the next few months, safety and security aspects will be dealt with in detail by the security directorate headed by BCCI President Shashank Manohar.”
Dates for future meetings of the COC will be determined and announced in due course.
