With a distinguished background in cricket administration, Shah’s journey began in 2009 at the district and state levels with the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA). His rapid rise through the ranks culminated in 2019 when he became the youngest-ever Honorary Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). In this role, he spearheaded transformative initiatives, including the record-breaking IPL media rights deal, the launch of the Women’s Premier League, the establishment of a state-of-the-art Centre of Excellence, and the introduction of the Test Cricket Incentive Scheme.

Beyond India, Shah has made significant contributions to world cricket. He has served as President of the Asian Cricket Council and Chair of the ICC’s Finance and Commercial Affairs Committee, further solidifying his reputation as a global cricket leader.

Reflecting on his new role, Shah expressed gratitude and excitement:
“I am honored to begin my tenure as ICC Chair and deeply appreciate the trust placed in me by the ICC Directors and Member Boards.

“This is an exhilarating time for cricket as we prepare for the LA28 Olympic Games and work to make the sport more inclusive and widely celebrated. With multiple formats coexisting and the women’s game growing rapidly, cricket stands at a pivotal moment with immense potential to captivate fans worldwide. Our focus will remain on equipping players with the best resources while engaging new audiences globally.

“I also extend my heartfelt thanks to Greg Barclay for his leadership over the past four years and the significant milestones achieved under his guidance. I am eager to collaborate with the ICC team and Member countries to sustainably elevate cricket’s global presence.”

Jay Shah’s appointment marks a defining moment for the ICC, promising an era of innovation, inclusivity, and global growth for cricket.
