St. John’s, ANTIGUA – West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) President, Dave Cameron is offering congratulations to the Guyana Jaguars for successfully defending the Regional 4Day Professional Cricket League title. The team took home the George Headley/Everton Weekes Trophy.
The Jaguars racked up 149 points to win back to back titles and is the sole winner in the newly formatted 4Day competition. The President noted the “consistency with which the Jaguars have delivered. They were even more convincing in their last match of the round whipping Jamaica Scorpions by an inning and 55 runs.”
The President went on to note that “what Guyana as a country has done with its cricket product in the last three years, where all categories of their teams have won or been in a final, always challenging for a top position, is commendable.”
The President also wanted to highlight the input of the WI Under 19 captain, Shimron Hetmyer, who since his return has been part of the squad and made an impressive century in the last round – 107 – and was also man of the match. “That is the kind of integration we encourage,” exclaimed the President.
The region will now continue to focus its attention on the 2016 ICC World Twenty20 where the male and female teams have won two of the matches played so far.
