GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (June 21, 2026) — Mitchell Owen shattered Major League Cricket records with a breathtaking 155 as Washington Freedom defeated MI New York by 30 runs in a run-filled contest that also featured a historic century from Kieron Pollard.

Owen’s explosive innings propelled Washington Freedom to 245 for 5, the second-highest team total in MLC history, before their bowlers held firm to restrict MI New York to 215 for 6 despite Pollard’s unbeaten century.

After being sent in to bat, Washington Freedom made their intentions clear from the outset. Owen launched a relentless assault on the MI New York bowling attack, helping Freedom race to 77 runs in the powerplay.

The Australian all-rounder reached his half-century from just 25 deliveries and brought up his century in only 41 balls. He continued to dominate throughout the innings, clearing the boundary with remarkable consistency and dismantling every bowling option presented to him.

Owen eventually fell for a stunning 155 from 68 balls, an innings decorated with 11 fours and 13 sixes. The knock established a new record for the highest individual score in Major League Cricket history, surpassing the previous mark of 151.

Captain Steven Smith provided valuable support with 27, while Mark Chapman added a quick-fire 23 from 12 deliveries to ensure Freedom maintained their momentum through the latter stages of the innings.

MI New York found some success at the death, with Romario Shepherd and Corbin Bosch each claiming a wicket, but the damage had already been inflicted as Freedom finished on an imposing 245 for 5.

Faced with a daunting target of 246, MI New York suffered an early collapse that ultimately proved decisive.

Glenn Maxwell struck twice with the ball, while two costly run-outs compounded the pressure. Nicholas Pooran, Quinton de Kock and Monank Patel were all dismissed within the opening three overs as MI New York slumped to 56 for 4 at the end of the powerplay.

Pollard, however, refused to surrender.

Batting at No. 5, the veteran West Indian produced one of the innings of the tournament, combining power and experience to keep his side in contention. He first shared an important partnership with Shepherd, who contributed 26, before finding another willing ally in Bosch.

Bosch played an aggressive supporting role, finishing unbeaten on 35 from just 14 balls as he and Pollard added 81 runs for the unbroken seventh-wicket partnership.

Pollard reached his century on the final ball of the match, finishing unbeaten on 100 from 56 deliveries. During the innings, he also became the leading run-scorer in T20 cricket history, adding another milestone to an already distinguished career.

Despite Pollard’s heroics, the early wickets left MI New York with too much ground to recover. Washington Freedom’s disciplined new-ball bowling ensured the chase never fully gained momentum, securing a convincing 30-run victory.

The match will be remembered for two extraordinary batting performances, but it was Owen’s record-breaking 155 that proved the defining contribution and earned him Player of the Match honors.
