USACricketers.com speaks with Aadhav Iyer, a Fremont, California, native and Blazers cricketer, about his journey from youth cricket in the USA and domestic cricket in India to Minor League Cricket, his debut experience, and his ambitions to represent the USA at the Under-19 and senior levels.
My name is Aadhav Iyer. I was born in Fremont, California, where I still live. I am a first-year college student studying economics at San Jose State University. I have represented domestic teams in India, including Tamil Nadu. In the USA, I have represented the West Zone at the Under-15 level and the Blazers at the Under-19 level. I currently represent the Blazers in Minor League Cricket and at the youth level.Aadhav Iyer, a Blazers cricketer from Fremont, California, reflects on his Minor League Cricket debut, his experience in Indian domestic cricket and his ambitions to represent the USA.
Can you tell us about your cricketing journey and how you got started in the game?
My cricket journey started in the USA when I was four years old, watching my brother play with my dad. Since both of them had played cricket, I was eager to join in as well, and I discovered that I had a natural talent for the game. With the right coaching and mentoring, I flourished and progressed quickly through the older age groups, playing Under-15 cricket at 11 and Under-17 cricket at 14. I then went to India and played domestic cricket there, bringing those lessons back to the USA and eventually earning the opportunity to play in Minor League Cricket.
Can you describe the emotions you experienced when you stepped onto the field for your first Minor League Cricket match?
I felt a mixture of nervousness and eagerness. I was nervous about matching my skills against those of some of the established players on the team and keeping up with them, but I was also eager to prove myself on a big stage.
Was there a particular moment during your debut that stood out as especially memorable?
The most memorable moment of my debut was taking my first wicket with the first ball of my career. It was the wicket of my longtime friend Aryan Sidhu. It felt really satisfying to make an immediate impact.
What aspects of your game were you most satisfied with during your debut, and what would you like to improve?
I was not very satisfied with my overall performance, but taking the wicket was a positive takeaway. I could have contributed more with the bat and shown greater positivity in the field while supporting my teammates.
What are your personal goals for the remainder of the 2026 season, and what do you hope to contribute to your team's campaign?
My personal goals are to make an impact in the upcoming Atlanta Open T20 and set a good example for players trying to follow the same pathway. I also hope to contribute to my team's campaign by supporting my teammates both on and off the field and being a disciplined teammate.
6. Has your Minor League Cricket experience changed your ambitions in any way, particularly regarding Major League Cricket or opportunities to represent the USA?
Since the introduction of MiLC and MLC, my goal has always been to play in MiLC and represent the USA Under-19 team, making a positive impact at that level. Eventually, I want to keep working hard and performing well enough to earn my way into MLC and, ultimately, the USA men's team.
What has been the biggest adjustment for you, whether in terms of playing conditions, travel, preparation, or the quality of opposition?
The biggest adjustment for me has been adapting to the playing conditions, as the pitches in California were very different from those I was used to playing on in India. I have never worried about the opposition because, as long as I prepare well and perform to the best of my ability, I know I can put up a good fight.
How would you describe the team environment, and what has it been like sharing the dressing room with experienced and established players?
The team environment is very disciplined and player-focused. Sharing the dressing room with such experienced players has been a blessing because I have picked up many little things from their daily routines, mental approach, and attitude toward the game. These lessons will also help me develop as a player.
What message would you like to share with young cricketers in the USA who are working toward making their own Minor League Cricket debut?
The one thing I have to say to all the young cricketers coming through this pathway is to keep persevering, no matter what happens. As Sachin Tendulkar said, “If people throw stones at you, convert them into milestones.”
