The passing of Mr. Clifford S. Hinds is a tremendous loss to the cricket fraternity of New York, the Tri-State area, and the wider American cricket community.
Mr. Hinds was among those remarkable individuals who devoted a significant part of their lives to establishing, strengthening, and expanding cricket in a region where the sport needed committed people willing to invest their personal time and energy to help it grow.
For decades, New York cricket benefited from his presence, involvement, and tireless efforts. He served the game in numerous capacities, but his greatest contribution may be found in the generations of young cricketers whose journeys were made possible through the programs and opportunities he helped create.
Youth cricket was especially close to his heart. At a time when organized pathways for young cricketers in the United States were limited, Mr. Hinds dedicated countless hours to developing an environment where youngsters could practice, compete, learn the values of the game, and progress to higher levels of cricket.
Through his involvement with New York Tri-State youth cricket, he helped bring together young players, coaches, administrators, parents, clubs, and communities around a common purpose: to give the next generation an opportunity to play and advance in cricket.
The true value of that contribution cannot simply be measured by the number of matches played or tournaments organized. It can be seen in the young cricketers who developed through these programs, in those who went on to represent the United States at youth and senior levels, and in the many families who became part of the growing cricket community across New York and the Tri-State region.
Mr. Hinds understood something very important: the future of cricket depends upon what we invest in our youth today.
He gave one of life's most precious gifts to that mission β his time.
Year after year, he continued giving his time to young players and to the development of cricket. Much of this work happened away from public recognition: organizing, mentoring, guiding, creating opportunities, supporting programs, and helping young cricketers find a pathway forward.
His efforts also extended to advancing opportunities for women and girls in cricket, helping to broaden participation and strengthen the sport's foundation in the United States.
For those of us associated with cricket in New York, Mr. Hinds represents an important chapter in our cricket history. The community we see today was built through the dedication of individuals like him who believed in the game long before cricket had the visibility and opportunities it enjoys today.
His physical presence may no longer be with us, but his contribution lives on every time a young player walks onto a cricket field in New York with the dream of representing the United States.
That is a legacy no scoreboard can measure.
My thoughts and prayers are with the Hinds family, his friends, fellow administrators, former players, and everyone across the cricket community who had the privilege of knowing him.
Thank you, Mr. Clifford S. Hinds, for giving so many valuable years of your life to cricket, to New York, to the Tri-State cricket community, and, most importantly, to our youth.
The seeds you planted will continue to grow through future generations of American cricketers.
