The American Cricket Federation is pleased to announce that the US Internal Revenue Service has granted it 501c(3) charitable status as a federally tax-exempt organization. This status is retroactive to October 9, 2012, meaning that all donations made since that date qualify as tax-deductible.
ACF Treasurer Michael Thomas said, “ACF’s qualification as a tax exempt charity is timely as we embark on a major drive to attract domestic US sponsorship. We have long seen the American market and its sophisticated sports management industries as the natural source of independent funding for an American sport.
“For too long, US national cricket has ignored grassroots development at all levels, precisely the audience – men, women, youth, schoolchildren and their parents – that represent the fan base and the volume that potential sponsors crave. Equally, certain levels of reticence associated with US cricket, if not distrust from historic encounters, have become apparent to us as we engage with potential sponsors.
“We are confident that ACF’s demonstration of charitable exemption will support our growing status as the leader of cricket development in America, as it attracts the renewed confidence of investors in the US cricket brand.”
