ACF Massachusetts Patriots to Participate in Lawrence Rowe Event
The 2015 American Cricket Federation’s (ACF) Newbery American Cricket Champions League (NACCL) winner Massachusetts Patriots is set to challenge a star-studded West Indies Cricket Legends XI on Sunday, March 6 at the ICC approved ODI Broward County Recreational Park stadium in Lauderhill, FL. The match is a part of the Lawrence Rowe Legendary Cricket Foundation’s 2nd Annual West Indies Cricket Legends Weekend event.
The weekend’s activities include a gala banquet with West Indies cricketing legends Sir Garry Sobers, Sir Andy Roberts, Lance Gibbs, Bernard Julien and others.
The New England based champions Massachusetts Patriots are excited to be representing ACF at the event, and are looking forward to rubbing shoulders with some of the greatest West Indian cricket players, including Courtney Walsh, Dwayne Smith, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Gus Logie, Faood Bacchus, Ridley Jacobs, Desmond Haynes and Jermaine Lawson, along with South African Test great Barry Richards.
Jaideep Reddy, captain of the Massachusetts Patriots, speaking on behalf of his team said, “It is an absolute privilege to have been invited to participate in this event and to play in front of and meet cricketing legends such as Sir Garfield Sobers, Lawrence Rowe, Courtney Walsh, Lance Gibbs and others. To lead the team as current ACF NACCL National champions at the event, is an experience I will cherish forever.”
The Massachusetts Patriots earned the right to represent the ACF having romped home ahead of Mid-Atlantic’s Philadelphia Tigers, Florida’s Florida All Stars, New York’s NYBCL Jets, Ohio Valley’s Midwest Chargers, Mid-Atlantic’s WMCB Eagles, Southwest’s OCCA Cougars and Florida’s NFCL Thunder, to win the 2015 NACCL championship. As a result the Massachusetts Patriots were rewarded the opportunity of participating in the Lawrence Rowe Foundation legends event.
The Foundation is the brainchild of former West Indies and Jamaican batting legend Lawrence Rowe, and is aimed at raising funds to benefit former West Indian cricketers in need. Proceeds from this year’s event will benefit former Barbados and West Indies Test cricket legend Seymour Nurse.
Commenting on the foundation’s effort, Lawrence Rowe said, “It’s always a passion of mine, that I can at this stage of my life, give back something to those great players.”
ACF is pleased to be associated with the 2nd Annual Lawrence Rowe Legendary Cricket Foundation’s West Indies Cricket Legends Weekend event, and to make a positive contribution on and off the field, to the foundation’s efforts in helping former West Indian cricketers in need.
