The Eastern American Cricket Association has scheduled an exciting T20 Finals Day to wrap up the 2015 season. With games scheduled in Brooklyn and Queens, New York City cricket fans will have all opportunity to see four of EACA’s best T20 teams do battle for the 2015 Cup this Sunday, October 11th. The WTEC Brian Singh sponsored competition will see semi-finals played between Liberty Sports Club and NY-Centurion Cricket Club while Everest/ACS will do battle with 2015 runners-up Galaxy Cricket Club.
The action commences at 10 AM with 2015 40-Overs Champions Liberty SC taking on NY-Centurion at the popular Baisley Cage. At the same start time a revitalized E/ACS will do battle with Galaxy CC at Gateway Park in Brooklyn. The competition’s final is then slated for 2:30 PM on the same day at Baisley Cage.
Confidence off capturing the 40-Over cup and being undefeated in the 2015 T20 Tournament, Liberty SC will be the clear favorites against NY-Centurion. NY-Centurion, however, will be looking to continue in their giant-killer ways having upset Big Apple Cricket Club in the Quarter-Final.
NY-Centurion clenched a thrilling final over victory chasing 128 against BACC. The chase was wrapped up when captain, Deoraj Sewanan, took 8 runs off the final over at the cage to bring home the win. While their 40-Over showing did not look too bright, having lost 9 of their 14 games and being relegated to the B-Division, Centurion has been able to keep games competitive with the top teams and converted a big win to get to the T20 semi-finals.
Liberty SC turned in a commanding 8 wicket win in their Quarter-Final match against Gladiators CC. The club has dominated the T20 Tournament so far and will be looking to turn in another strong performance to get to their first EACA T20 final. Memories of a close call in 2014’s T20 quarter-final, which LSC narrowly won in a super-over, against Centurion would be a good enough reminder that their opponents are not to be taken lightly, however.
E/ACS has also won all of their games so far in the T20 tournament. They wrapped up a comfortable 6 wicket win over Victory CC in their Quarter-Final match. Having been ruled out of the 40-Over semi-final spot the experienced E/ACS side will be looking to make a good showing. Boosted with the return of USA national player, Karan Ganesh and Surinamese national players, Muneshwar Patandin and Wasim Haslim E/ACS will be going in as favorites into the match. The experience of E/ACS was evident against Victory CC in the Quarter-Final. Restricting VCC to 119 the total was overhauled inside 12 overs.
The E/ACS match-up against Galaxy CC is a repeat of the 2014 T20 semi-final. While E/ACS may be termed the favorites, Galaxy has gotten the better of them in a number of recent 40-Overs and T20 encounters, including the 2014 semi-final. GCC would also be on a high having defeated defending champions Atlantis Cricket Club-NY in the Quarter-Final. Led by prolific top order batsman Randall Wilson’s 73, GCC’s 169 proved too much for ACC-NY last Sunday.
With an action packed day of the fast paced, T20 version of cricket slated for this Sunday, the executive committee of the EACA is encouraging fans to come out in their numbers to enjoy some entertaining cricket. As the season winds down also the EACA Executives would like to congratulate all the teams who have participated in the competitions and made the season yet another successful one. Special thanks goes out to our sponsors, Cricket Zone & Ravi Etwaroo, James Manbahal and WTEC Brian Singh and all others who have supported the season. The executives also recognize and commend the efforts of the umpires who officiated in every game throughout the season.
