Adam Sanford Spearheading Cricket Revival In St. Maarten

Former Dominica and West Indies fast bowler Adam Sanford is on a mission to see the revival of first-class cricket on the island of St. Maarten. He, along with Imran Amjad Macsood of Nagico Insurance, is determined to see a resurgence of first-class cricket on the Island. Current efforts are focused on the Carib Lumber Ball Park; that’s where the upcoming T10 tournament will be played from November 8 to 10, 2019.

Nagico Insurance, through the efforts of Imran Macsood, continues to make significant contributions to cricket in St. Maarten, as well as to the development of cricket in other Regional territories. Sanford, along with Macsood, Maq Qureshi, Founder and CEO of Cricket Council USA, and Jeff Miller, CEO of the Jamaica Tallawahs, held a weekend of preliminary games in St. Maarten earlier this year, and the response was so overwhelming that the Sanford Group has decided to make this an annual event.

So far, the upcoming tournament has attracted several marquee players, including Barbados and West Indies off-spinner Sulieman Benn, batting all-rounder Dwayne Smith and Former West Indies fast bowler Krishmar Santokie. Several other test and first-class players are scheduled to join the tournament. Several local sponsors have also been attracted to the Adam Sanford Cricket for Life project, including Cani TV, Color Rite Copy Center and Nagico Insurance.

In addition to Sanford, his wife Julenta, and Macsood, the most recent addition to the group is long-standing USA cricket administrator and USA Cricket Hall-of-Famer, Orville Hall. Hall will take up the position as Director of Cricket Operations. He will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating the cricket teams and be responsible for all Radio and TV interviews. He will coordinate the other cultural events and will undertake the duties of Master of Ceremonies for the entire project.

Speaking on Hall’s appointment, Sanford said, “I have always admired Orville’s hard work and dedication over the years, and I am convinced that he will bring the same vigor and vitality to his new position”.
