Going into the 2011 NYPD T/20 Tournament as defending champion, Superstars were aiming to maintain their winning ways. This year the Superstars are missing some valuable players, most noticeably Andy Mohammed and Kavishwar Bridgepaul who are no longer eligible to participate in the event.
However in the absence of these players this year’s Superstars’ team is nothing short of talent comprising of some of the best youth players in the region. Their talent proved itself on Wednesday June 29 during the Superstars 136 runs win over Kryptonite.
Superstars’ captain Imdad Khan won the toss and elected to bat first on a sunny day at Kissena Park. Trevis Ross and Ryan Hussain opened the batting for Superstars while A. Haque opened the bowling for Kryptonite. The first over provided the perfect start for Superstars as Haque conceded 22 runs, 17 of those being wides. Haque would get his revenge however as Ryan Hussain fell caught behind off the last ball of the over for 0. One of the newest members to the USA U-19 team, Amarnauth Persaud, was the new man in. Persaud showed why he was selected to the U-19 team with a variety of classy shots around the ground. Ross also seemed to be getting into his rhythm but miss timed a shot and was out for 18. In walk Imdad Khan who from the beginning blasted shots all over the ground for sixes. He and Persaud put on massive partnership that propelled the Superstars to an extraordinary total of 201. Amarnauth would retire out for a well played 63 while Imdad Khan fell for a spectacular 83.

In response to the 201 posted by the Superstars, Kryptonite needed to have a solid opening stand. Anwar Khan and Hamza Ahmad shared the new ball for Superstars but the two had a difficult time controlling their line and length at first. In the 3rd over Khan struck by removing M. Hassan for 2. The Krptonite batsmen seemed to have a difficult time against the two pacers as they bowled on a wicket that supported extra bounce and pace. At the end of their respective spells 42 for 2.
A. Hasalder and N. Ganiadoo took over the bowling for Superstars and with their spin wreaked havoc amongst the Kryptonite batsmen. Hasalder bowled a very economical spell while Ganiadoo cleaned up the batsmen at the other end. In the end Kryptonite was eventually dismissed for 71 all out in 16 overs. Ganiadoo was the pick of the Superstar bowlers with 4 wickets for 11 in 3 overs.
