EACA Power40 Competition
Liberty Sports Club was bundled out for 101 in a one sided affair against Big Apple CC in their first Division 1 encounter of the 2013 EACA Power40 competition. The men in Blue won the toss and chose to bat but did not do themselves any favor after being reduced to 30 for 4 by the time Andre Kirton finished his 8 over spell on a good Bay Park playing surface. Big Apple then made light work of the paltry total, chasing it down in 14 overs and only losing 1 wicket.
The LSC top order owed the collapse to poor shot selection and consistent bowling from the BACC opening pair of Andre Kirton and Telston Johnson. First to go was Bose Persaud (3) then Altaaf Habibulla (0) and skipper Danesh Deonarain (3) all off of poorly executed shots. Dilly Khilawan (17) who was holding his end missed a full toss to get out leg before wicket. Kirton accounted for all four of the LSC bats to finish with figures of 8 overs 1 maiden 4 for 11 runs.
The out of form Marlon Persaud was the only batsman on show who looked the part, he contributed 20 runs but fell to Johnson in the closing overs of the game looking to up struggling total. Thakur Singh (10) & Tooneshwar Kristona (11) added some vital runs in the end when it appeared as if LSC was going to be bowled out for under 75.
Big Apple went about the chase with intent. Former Guyana national player, Richard Ramdeen, struck 6 fours and 1 six for his 35 before he was bowled by Marlon Persaud. Skipper, Zaheer Saffie (33*), joined Mark Gomes (25*) to see the total off with no major concerns in the 14th over.
