Assassins Trash Super Chargers, Win For Phantom, Wolfpack And Sunrise

It was a game that could decide the final standing in the division for the playoffs in the 2010 NYSCL 30 over Cup competition sponsored by H & N Insurance Agency Inc. Both teams were playing undefeated coming into the fifth round of the qualifying rounds of the competition. Country Boys playing at home may have felt that they had an edge, but this was not the case when the final result was in last Sunday afternoon.

Country Boys won the toss of the coin and took the batting crease first, their  openers did not have any chance to settle as Dave Singh and Stanley Lloyd was right on target from the get go. The first batsman to go was Tony Fernandez who was bowled by Singh for 7, in the next over Lloyd remove Scipio stump for 7. Singh continues to dominate by removing Dowd and Aubrey Towler both without scoring and after the sixth over a bowling change was made with Leonard Vasquez and Ryan Ramjas.

The Country Boys skipper Andrew Jerrick who was batting well, along with Leacock tries to pull their innings together. Jerrick was finding the gaps and was able to score singles and double, a few fielding changes had to be made and Vasquez was sent to the deep square leg. With a strong throwing arm Vasquez was able to find Jerrick well short of his crease and he was run out for a top score of 26. Javid Salim was called into action and was not finding his line and length and bowled to short, he was replaced by Amit Doma who bowled without any luck. Ramjas bowled Leacock for a fighting 16 and the teams break for water with the score on 61 for 6.

When play resume Giddings and Seymore continues to bat stubbornly, especially Seymore who played some very good defensive stroke. Giddings was bowled by Ramjas for 4 and Ivor Chan join Seymore and the two change strategy by trying to speed up the running between the wickets and it work for a while before Seymore played a very loose shot and he was caught of Vasquez for 13. Green came to the crease to join Chan and they were able to bat to the end of the thirty over for a score of 122 for 8, Chan was on 19 and Green on 1 both not out. Dave Singh bowled his spell for 3 wickets for 16 runs, Ryan Ramjas took 2 for 24, Lloyd and Vasquez each took 1 wicket.

When Phantom took the crease they found the going very difficult and loss 3 quick wickets, that of Terry Sital and Andrew Haniff without scoring. Two overs later Gerald Lloyd was caught of Giddings for 1, at this point Phantom was in a lot of trouble. Avie Persaud joins Ryan Ramjas at the crease and the two began to repair the damage. Ramjas was batting solid and took no chance as he settle for the singles, his partner Avie followed his style and by the water break Phantom still needing another 55 runs without any further damage.

In the last quarter when Country Boys took the field they changed their plans and their bowlers bowled just short of a length as if to get the batsman to take his chance and gave a catch. This did not work as both batsman stuck to their approach knowing that they had plenty of overs to get the require runs. Ramjas reached his half century and in the next over he tries to reserve sweep Chance and gave a simple catch to Seymore at cover point. Leonard Vasquez came to the crease knowing if anyone can clear the huge boundary it is he who can and he went about his business with that approach.

He struck the ball with power and as the ball raced to the boundary he got plenty of support from his teammates and all the other supporters. It was a typical Vasquez innings, playing every ball by its merit and putting away the bad ball. Avie was the quite one as he played one innings that was laced with fine stroke and some very defensive plays whereby making sure that Phantom get the job done and keeping their undefeated record in place.  Vasquez was left not out on 26 and Avie on 20 not out as Phantom reach their target with 8 overs to spare. Giddings picked up 2 for 10, Chan 1 for 24 and Chance 1 for 4.

Wildfire did not fare well against Sunrise as Ricky Deenu with the ball, and Masood Salim with the bat big performances lifted Sunrise.  Wildfire winning the toss decided to bat with their full squad opening with T. Boodai and Vinod Singh who was struck by Ricky dominant bowling as he bowled Vinod in 4th delivery in the 2nd over of the game. In his next delivery he cleaned bowled Chris Singh for duck, and setup the hatrick, but R. Singh survived with the score 2 for 11.

Ricky continued his bowling accuracy from last week game in his 2nd over  bowled R. Sing for duck in his 3rd delivery, and the 4th deliver he knocked down Mukesh Narine stump for a  duck setting up another hatrick. The next batsmen Chuniram Singh survived the over and Ricky picked up 2 maiden wickets was 4 for 5 and built fear in Wildfire batmen with the score 4 for 19 at the end of the 4 overs.  Boodai, and Chuniram was faced with the daunting task to steer their team back into the game batted wisely and  played timely shots to keep the run rate building without losing wickets.

They partnered in figuring out Ricky bowling, and build on a sensible running game strategy picking up quick single, and turning singles in to double as soon as the Sunrise fielder’s misfields. Settling nicely, putting away bad ball, and building an important partnership Boodai, and Chuniram skillfully took their team to 92 for 4 in the 15 over half.

Boodai and Chuniram batting with stride progresses Wildfire batting up to the 16 over when Deryck Basdeo, Sunrise captain bowled Boodai for 42 to break up the 83 run partnership with the score at 102 for 5. Sunil Ratoo joined Chuniram who continued his remarkable batting took the score to 142 as Sunil was bowled by Harold Deokinanan and in the same over Chuniram was run out for an outstanding 52 with the score 146 for 7. Ricky came back and pick up K. Sokoo as Shane Manbodh wrap up remaining batsmen with back to back wickets in his first 2 deliveries of the final over of the game. Wildfire ended with a remarkable finish scoring 185 all out in 29.2 overs and felt confident that this game was in their winning column.

In successive games Ricky Deenu displayed dominant bowling as he bowling spell reads 6-2-25-5 and his fellow teammate bowled as follow:  Shane Manbodh 5.2-0-31-2, Deryck Basdeo 6-0-22-1, and Harold Deokinanan 6-0-40-1.

With both teams faced with a must win situation to stay in the quest for a playoff spots Sunrise batmen weighted this game as a final with Masood Salim leading the way teaming up with Roopnarine Dayal in reply. Masood bang two quick fours off of Wildfire opening bowler Vinod Singh to set the pace of Sunrise batting. He did not stop and in Vinod 2nd over he blasted a six and 3rd over had Vinod removed from the bowling rotated as his batting explosive spell trouble for Wildfire bowlers. Dayal batted with excellence as he moved the ball around and give the strike to Masood.

Masood displayed superior batting power as he thrilled his teammates and onlookers with explosive drives and boundaries. Sunrise lost Dayal in the 12 over off the bowling of S. Ratoo for 22 with score at 83. In the next over Masood was run out awkwardly as the ball hitting an object behind an object behind the keeper right back to his glove. It was a thunderous 42 runs knock by Masood which include 2 sixes and 5 fours and he gave his team an important start. In the same over Sunrise lost another quick wicket and end at the 15 over half with the score 100 for 4 with Deryck Basdeo in control.

Deryck batting solidly know that he must stayed and do is part as the captain to complete was Masood started. Hunkering down and punishing Wildfire bowler bad balls Deryck batted with class leading the way to move towards the needed target partnering with other members with the score the score to 144 for 6 in 21st over Deryck was joined by Ricky Deenu who showed that he meant business with the bat as well to finish this game up. Ricky would hit back to back to back fours as Sunrise exploded for runs.

Ricky look like the punisher with bats and together it looks like he would wrap this game up with Deryck. Unfortunately Rickey was given run out by the umpire to what seem like a very close call for 18 with the score 167 for 7 in the 24th over. Ricky showed high emotions and felt his batting chance was snatched away hesitated to come out of the game showed sportsmanship and accepted his faith. Deryck joined by Harold Deokinanan Sunrise vice captain and together staged a remarkable ending as they batting together flawlessly toward their target.

Harold settle quickly as he started to score and slammed a powerful cover drive for four to end this game with Sunrise reaching its target made 187 for 7 in 26.5. Deryck was congratulated by his teammates made a solid 35 runs not out. It was very important for Sunrise to be on the winning side of this game, and keeping up the winning momentum.

Leading the bowling for Wildfire was Sunil Ratoo 6-1-28-2 followed by D. Ramroop 5-34-2, and Chris Singh 6-25-1.

Asrula And Baichoolall Leads Wolfpack Over NY All Stars

Wolfpack Cricket Club continue their dominating play in the NYSCL Division 1B 30 over competition with a pounding of NY All stars cricket team. Batting first NY All Stars were bowled out for 60 runs.

H. Jagnauth and O. Sooman top score with 16 runs each. Wolfpack openers Rudy Baichoolall and Wasim Asrula were on target once again picking up three wickets each for 11 runs. Abdul Mowla and Zakir Bacchus claim one wicket each.

Chasing a low total Wolfpack batsman was in no rush as showed by their play picking mostly singles to eventually reach 61 for 5 in 22 overs.  Zakir Bacchus once again top score with 19 runs, E. Jaikarran made 17 and Hafiz Bacchus contributed with 12 runs. O. Sooman bowl a miserly spell picking 1 for 6 runs which included 3 maidens and N. Mohamed pick up three wickets for 5 runs.
