Venturing into the second phase of the 2015 EACA’s Cricket Zone 40-Overs competition and coming off of a tie with New York Centurions the previous week, Atlantis Cricket Club – NY was looking to get back into the full-points column, and they did so by climbing over Everest/ACS at Heckscher State Park last Sunday.
Michael Noble struck a brilliant 80 from 6o balls as Atlantis beat Everest/ACS.
Winning the toss and electing to bat, Atlantis under the captaincy of Keon Lake, quickly regrouped after losing Henderson Blades for 5 with the score on 25 in the third over. Adding another 35 ticks by the loss of the second wicket, that of Shawn Mason, 33; the Metallica Commodities Corporation sponsored guys exponentially added to their total, bolstered by a 102-run fourth-wicket partnership between Michael Noble, 86 (11x4s) off 60 balls, and Kavishwar Bridgepaul, 60 (2×6, 7x4s) off 44 deliveries.
The Atlantis total would tap out at 255 for 7 in the 40th over. Other significant contributors were Keon Lake, 24, (1×6, 1×4) and Prashanth Nair, 13 not out. Dwayne Smith chipped in with 11, including one boundary. It was a very decent total by the boys in green in the absence of their skipper Alex Amsterdam and Nicholas Standford, both doing Team USA duty in the ICC CWC T20 Qualifier in Ireland, and injured vice-Captain Ryan Sukhdeo. The Atlantis wickets fell at 25; 60; 94; 196; 235; 248 and 255. Jamiel Jackman, Nazim Uddin and Errol Williams did not bat.
The pick of the bowlers for Everest/ACS was Wasim Haslim with figures of 8-0-56-3. Deveshwari Prashad, Muneshwar Patandin and Charlton Senior each enjoyed one wicket apiece, albeit at a cost of 36, 41 and 54 respectively. There were 23 Extras.
In a spirited response, Everest/ACS missing all-rounder Karen Ganesh also in Ireland on the USA National XI, reached 180 all out in 32.5 overs. Everest was off to a better opening stand of 38, before losing the wicket of Muneshwar Patandin, 20, (2x4s) followed two runs later by his opening partner Steve Nowrangilall, 20, (3x4s). The Atlantis bowlers were able to penetrate the Everest/ACS batting line-up, but had to do so around the bat of veteran Zamin Amin, 42 (1×6, 6x4s) off of 38 deliveries. Terry Hastoo joined fellow Master Zamin Amin and contributed a painstaking but worthwhile 26, (2x4s). Charlton Senior contributed a swashbuckling 20, (1×6, 2x4s) and Wasim Haslim chipped in with 15, in the losing cause. The Everest/ACS wickets fell at 38; 50; 51; 81; 117; 119; 162: 168; 178 and 180.
Bowling for Atlantis: Nazim Uddin with figures of 0.5-0-4-2 was the most economical, while Michael Noble 2 for 36 off 8 with one maiden, Jermaine Horatio 2 for 37 off 7 and skipper Keon Lake 2 for 42 off 8 paired up in the scalping, with Prashanth Nair snagging the remaining single wicket for 20 off 3 overs. There was one run-out. Extras contributed 29.
Excellent all-round performances were turned in by Atlantis’ acting skipper Keon Lake and all-rounder Michael Noble. The latter top scored with 86, got two wickets and had two catches. Lake contributed 24 runs, grabbed 2 wickets and held on to three catches in the match.
Atlantis returns to Heckscher State Park this Sunday to play Richmond Hill.
